Many people were coming in and out of the bathroom behind them. Dezi looked back and slowly shook his head.
Some adults would pinch children’s cheeks or stroke their heads if they found them cute, but Dezi had red marks on his face, so the man must have put some force into it. Who would pinch a stranger’s kid with so much force?
Lindsey reached out and carried Dezi into her arms. Thinking that Dezi was scared, she gently patted his back and said, "It's okay. Let's go home."
They went down two floors to the basement parking lot of the mall. Dezi gained a lot of weight in the past few weeks, so it was harder to carry him. Even so, Lindsey still carried him downstairs. Then, she put him down and held his hand as they walked towards their car.
"In the future, when you meet any weird strangers..." Children were usually more sensitive towards the kindness and malice of others. Lindsey wanted to tell him to shout for help so that she could come to his rescue. Even if she was not around, other kind-hearted people would help him.
However, before she said that, she stopped. She had forgotten that Dezi could not speak.
The little guy next to her raised his head, seemingly curious about the rest of Lindsey’s sentence. Lindsey touched his face where it was pinched red and said, "Next time, you can just run to Mommy."
Dezi nodded fervently.
"Aawww, I also want a son this cute. Look at his little face! It just melts your heart." Next to them, Yvette took Dezi's hand with glimmering eyes. She scared away the boy, who leaned towards Lindsey.
Yvette pouted. Behind them, Sieben was happily eating a lollipop.
"I don’t wanna go home yet. Lindsey, can I follow you home...Ah! Watch out!" Yvette said this as her voice rose several octaves and became so shrill.
Lindsey heard a sound and blinked. She then saw a heavy motorcycle coming rapidly towards her.
The motorcycle appeared out of nowhere and came at them. From the looks of it, it was targeting Lindsey.
She squeezed Dezi’s little hand and for a moment, her mind went blank as she stood frozen in place.
There was a roar of an engine and they were blinded by the headlights. In the nick of time, even though Lindsey was stunned, she somehow found the strength to quickly push Dezi aside.
Lindsey used too much force that Yvette did not stand firm and fell along with Dezi.
The motorcycle that was just a short distance away was already approaching her, the loud engine resounded through her tympanic membrane. Lindsey looked at the black motorcycle that was extremely close to her. Her heart stopped beating and she held her breath for a moment. Her mind was blank.
The motorcycle was less than a meter away from Lindsey. She could even see the madness flashing in the biker’s eyes.
In the next second, a strong force came from behind her. Lindsey was dragged backward and fell to the ground. She then rolled to the side from the inertia.
The pain in her back and shoulders was intense. When Lindsey turned her head, she saw Sieben, who had fallen to the ground with a cold look in her eyes. Sieben looked completely different from the girl that was happily eating a lollipop earlier.
"Sieben!"
"Watch out!"
"Don't...don't do that!" Lindsey kept shaking her head. "Let's go! Let’s hurry and go home."
Sieben hesitated slightly as she crouched over there. A hint of confusion flashed in her eyes. She froze for a moment and finally decided to obey Lindsey and stood up.
Lindsey let out a sigh of relief. However, before she finished sighing, Yvette suddenly screamed.
"Get lost!" Yvette shouted, "Help! Somebody, help me!"
Lindsey's expression changed abruptly and looked at Sieben. It was rare that the usually stubborn Sieben did not dwell on the person on the ground. They then ran towards Yvette.
In a panic, Lindsey did not notice that her phone was gone, so she did not notice that the phone, which was ringing for a while, was finally connected. Quentin's voice came through the speaker, "Sorry Madam, I wasn’t with my phone just now."
Lindsey ran as fast as she could and bypassed all the pillars in the parking lot. When she saw the scene in front of her, her heart stopped for a moment.
Yvette was holding Dezi tightly while two big men surrounded them. One of them yanked Yvette's hair while the other tried to snatch Little Dezi from her.
The little boy in her arms panicked and his face was already covered in tears. His mouth was wide open and he looked frightened, but he could not make a sound. There was only a tiny, almost muted scream.
When the men saw Lindsey and Sieben rushing over, one of them cursed in a low voice and suddenly kicked Yvette’s torso.
