Shaun shook his head with a bitter smile and raised his hand to interrupt Lindsey's words. "Don't feel sorry, you don't owe me anything!"
Lindsey was completely stunned by his words and did not know how to react. Shaun turned his gaze to the side and stopped looking at her.
"You don't need to feel sorry, and don't thank me. What I did was just atoning for my sins. I worked with Allie Wilford back then. A lot of occasions where you were injured or when you quarreled with Zayn was all because of me and Allie Wilford. In fact, I should be the one apologizing."
After saying these words, Shaun clenched his fists, but he still pretended to be relaxed and asked Lindsey, "Aren’t you shocked that I’m not as good as I seem? I was once so scared that you’ll find out about these things. That’s because I always wanted to protect you well."
Now that he was standing on the sidelines, he realized how wrong he was and how his selfish desires were not called love. This dark side of him hurt the people he cherished most.
After Shaun said this, although he felt ashamed, he still felt calm inside. People would always have to pay the price for their actions.
He was always so hesitant. Even after he had let go of his feelings for Lindsey, Shaun still wanted to give Lindsey the help and protection in her time of need as her brother, so he did not want her to change the way he thought about him.
However, when he thought about Yvette, he suddenly had some courage to say it.
He had to face up to himself, all the good and bad sides of him. He could only chase after another great woman after he owned up to all his mistakes.
Shaun suddenly laughed.
"Brother." Lindsey did not know what he was laughing at. She had just returned from her slightly shocked state.
Lindsey went forward and took Shaun’s hand. She did not look distant or hateful. Instead, she looked at him frankly and trustingly. “Even if you did work with Allie in the past, I’m sure you didn’t mean to do anything to hurt me.”
She said with a natural certainty. Although there was no way to tell, Lindsey just had such confidence in Shaun.
Shaun froze for a moment. Their eyes met. Shaun raised his hand and touched Lindsey's head, just like when she was young. His voice was slightly muffled as he said, "I'm leaving."
Lindsey did not send him out and stood there as she watched Shaun's figure disappear. Suddenly, she let out a low laugh herself and felt that she would soon have a new sister-in-law.
She squatted down and took Dezi into her arms. She rubbed her cheek against his soft little face. "Dezi, you’ll get an aunt soon. Are you happy?"
Little Dezi did not say anything. He just grinned at Lindsey and put his tiny hand on her face.
The smile of a child seemed to have a magical healing power that Lindsey immediately forgot all about her worries.
In the afternoon before Lindsey’s therapy session, Zayn rushed home before Lester came.
Although he did not tell her, Lindsey could tell that Zayn probably squeezed out some time to come back and that he was still busy with work.
"I can do it alone. You shouldn't always feel so uneasy." Lindsey made him a cup of tea and sat down beside Zayn.
Zayn still had some fear from the previous events, so he could not resist calling back to ask about Lindsey's condition. If he did not have to go to the office, he would have preferred to be at home with Lindsey the entire time.
He rubbed his stiff neck and looked over to the bed only to be met by a pair of smiling eyes.
Lindsey winked at him a little mischievously. Zayn could not help but smile at her. He then saw that she was pointing behind him.
That was where Dezi slept.
Zayn turned his head and saw the chubby little face looking at him with his round and adorable eyes like a cute little animal.
He rubbed his forehead and laughed. He walked up to Lindsey to kiss her on the cheek, then went over to Dezi to carry him. Zayn did not care that Dezi was struggling and pinched Dezi’s cheeks. “When did you wake up?”
When he saw Dezi’s little face all scrunched up, he felt a sense of achievement and raised his eyebrows at the boy.
"Woke up a while ago." Lindsey held out her hand to him, gesturing for Zayn to bring Dezi to her.
Zayn walked to the bedside and stretched out his arms to hand the child to Lindsey when he felt a familiar sense of wetness.
He lowered his head and looked at his chest, where the little one was lying on earlier, and the color of his shirt had indeed turned darker.
Lindsey did not realize what happened. When she saw Zayn standing frozen in place, she looked at him in confusion. "What's wrong?"
Zayn’s face turned from delight to hatred with a hint of disgust in an instant. “Dezi Juhl! You peed on me again?!”
