This time, it was already dark.
Lindsey stood up with the little one in her arms, but before she could walk two steps, she suddenly felt a burst of vertigo.
She laughed at herself as she rubbed her temples with her other hand. “Sigh...I’m really getting weaker...”
The park was not very bright at night. Lindsey walked a few steps and felt dizzy again, so she simply sat at a covered spot and leaned back. "Wait for me. Let me just rest for a bit. I’m a little tired."
Lindsey easily got a fever. She wanted to go back to clean up the little one in her arms to see what he looked like, but her consciousness became blurred.
"Is your family mean to you?" Lindsey put her hand on the little boy’s head. He did not answer, so she said, "Don’t be scared. Auntie won’t hurt you."
Her voice gradually became softer and she completely lost consciousness. The little man in her arms just wrapped his arms around her neck and did not move.
Lindsey did not know what happened later. When she woke up the next day, Zayn was lying beside her and a small child was curled up at the edge of the bed.
"Lindsey, you really scared us to death yesterday." Since Yvette could not pinch the little boy’s cheek, she just went up to hug Lindsey’s arm.
Lindsey smiled apologetically. "Sorry to worry you guys."
She also could not believe it. She was so impulsive yesterday that she could not suppress it, but somehow, she found a child.
The little hand in her palm was soft. Lindsey squeezed it and took him towards the dining table.
Breakfast on the table was prepared according to their different preferences. Luckily, the dining table at the villa was big enough to fit all of them.
Lindsey purposely added a stool beside her and sat the little boy on it. She put a bunch of food on the small plate in front of him.
It did not take long for Zayn to come down. His hair was not fully dry yet and he was glaring at the kid next to Lindsey as he sat down on the other side of her.
It had been a while since they had so many people over.
They did not have the rule of not speaking at the dining table, so the atmosphere was unusually lively. Yvette made herself at home and was chatty and cheerful like a bird that just got out of its cage.
Everyone could tell that Lindsey was completely different from yesterday. The gloom seemed to have left Lindsey overnight.
Only Shaun looked unhappy. His eyes were on the plate in front of him but his ears filled with Yvette’s voice.
Lindsey rarely saw such a gloomy and unhappy look on Shaun’s face, so after breakfast, she could not resist pulling Shaun aside to ask him what was wrong.
Shaun was looking at Yvette, who was playing a game with Sieben not far away. He quickly withdrew his gaze and shook his head. "Nothing, I just didn't rest well last night."
"This child has been lost for several days and was inadvertently found by you. The director of the orphanage said that the child was still talking and loved to smile when he was picked up from the orphanage."
No wonder he hid behind those bushes and acted so resistant when Lindsey said she would send him home yesterday. No wonder this tiny person was so repulsed and wary of strangers.
Seeing the little guy curled up by her side, Lindsey’s heart ached so much. Next to her, the boy probably felt something as he reached over and gently held Lindsey’s hand while he held the comic book with the other hand.
"Oh, right, he’s five years old, but because he’s been malnourished, he’s developing slowly. The couple who adopted him is American, so he should be able to understand English, but not much." Shaun also felt that his throat was a little dry. This child did not look like he was five years old at all.
"What beasts!" Yvette suddenly shouted. "How could they do this to such a small child?! What kind of monsters are they?"
She huffed and puffed as she looked at the little one who had been rejecting her with heartache.
Yvette scolded the couple without using foul words. It was only when Shaun asked Lindsey what she was going to do with the child that Yvette finally shut her mouth.
Lindsey’s gaze landed on the little guy by her side and looked to Zayn without a second thought.
Her gaze was so straightforward that he did not need to guess what she wanted. Zayn sighed and kissed Lindsey’s hand in front of everyone before he slowly said, “Let’s adopt him.”
Lindsey's face was instantly filled with content, joy, warmth, and brilliance, which made Zayn not regret this decision for a long time afterward, even though he was always exasperated by this little brat.
