The sky was getting darker.
Zayn and everyone else searched this small park three times, but Lindsey seemed to have vanished and there was no sign of her anywhere.
Even in this cool weather, they were all sweating.
Sieben did not know what was happening. She just knew that they needed to find Lindsey. She would call out Lindsey’s name along with the others and follow them. She shouted until she lost her voice, but she did not dare to go to Soren for comfort.
That was because the atmosphere at the park was too tense.
Zayn had already searched for three hours. He even drove all around the park. No one knew how he managed to comb through every single street nearby the park in such a short time.
At this moment, Zayn was just gloomy. Yvette Wendell, who had known Zayn for many years, had never seen Zayn looking like this.
Yvette apologized many times. Shaun and Yvette were both remorseful. Although Zayn was angry, he had no intention to blame them.
Zayn was just mad at himself.
At this time, several people were standing at the park entrance. Zayn and Shaun’s people were still looking around for Lindsey.
"You guys should go back first." After a long time, Zayn pressed his lips together and finally opened his mouth. His voice was a bit hoarse. He sounded tired and weak.
Yvette was the first to refute. "Why? How can we go back when we haven’t found Lindsey yet?"
Zayn raised his eyes to look at her but did not speak. Next to her, Shaun grabbed Yvette's shoulders as a signal for her not to get too agitated. He then spoke, "Let's look again. Lindsey can’t run far alone."
Shaun finished with a customary smile to reassure them.
However, no one felt relaxed because of his words. Lindsey really could not have gone far by herself, but if someone took her away, as what happened the past several times, then it would be difficult to tell what would happen to her in such a long time.
Zayn even borrowed Terence Moeller’s connections to check the surveillance cameras near the park. However, there was no full coverage for the surveillance cameras and there were a lot of people coming and going from the park, which made it difficult to investigate. After searching for a long time, they only saw Lindsey going into the park and could not find her anywhere else.
"Let’s search again and expand the scope," Soren suggested.
Yvette was held by Shaun and did not break away from his grasp.
She was really blaming herself. Lindsey was behaving too strangely earlier. Even if Yvette wanted to accommodate Lindsey in everything, she should have noticed earlier that something was wrong after Lindsey had gone down for ten minutes.
Everyone’s mood was downcast.
All they knew was that Lindsey left on her own and they had no clue how to find her.
Zayn was on the verge of a breakdown. He turned around and got into the car without another word.
Before the car engine started, someone from inside the park suddenly rushed out holding a shoe in his hand.
"President! It’s Madam's shoe..."
Everyone's gaze was attracted to it.
Lindsey wore a pair of flats before she left home today. She preferred this simple and comfortable style nowadays. The shoe that the man was holding was covered in a layer of black mud that they could not tell what was its original color.
The others did not move. Zayn pushed the car door open and took the shoe from the man without caring that it was muddy. He carefully looked at it and his gaze was frightening as he asked, "Where did you find it?"
"By the lake inside the park."
This park was not large, but there was a small man-made lake. Usually, there would be some ducks floating on the lake and it was a good place to relax.
When everyone heard those words, their hearts sank.
Zayn did not have time to think about that much and quickly ran over, with the others following closely behind him.
They were 100 to 200 meters away, but the few of them arrived in an instant.
Yvette had already let go of Sieben. When she saw Shaun who was running over, her eyes flickered. Then, she handed over the person in her arms to him. “She’s freezing and has a bit of fever. She needs to go to the hospital now!”
Shaun then saw Lindsey. He sized up Yvette and found that she was fine. He was a little dumbfounded as he took Lindsey over. "What happened?"
Yvette flipped her palms to indicate that she did not know either.
In the next second, the person in Shaun's arms was suddenly hoisted away from him into another pair of domineering yet careful hands.
Zayn held Lindsey’s waist tightly like a treasure that he had lost and found. He reached out and put his hand on Lindsey's forehead. It was really hot.
"Sh*t!"
Lindsey had dirt all over her. Even her face was smeared with mud. She was only wearing one shoe, but her clothes were all intact.
Zayn's heart settled down and he leaned down to pick her up.
However, he felt a small resistance. Although it was small and did not hinder Zayn's movements, he could clearly feel it.
Zayn carried Lindsey into his arms and subconsciously looked down to see what was blocking him earlier and met a pair of dark-colored sparkling eyes.
It was a small child that looked to be about two or three years old. He was thin and was only wearing a thin layer of clothes. They could not tell what was his skin color because of all the mud on him. Lindsey was also in the same condition.
Apparently, someone attempted to wipe the mud off of him, but it was still not clean.
This child was terribly thin, but his eyes were sharp and lively under those double eyelids. His eyes were very distinct and his pupils were large.
His small hands tightly tugged on Lindsey's shirt. Those small hands were also dirty. He tilted his head slightly and looked unblinkingly at Zayn.
