Sophie stared blankly at the numbers on the piece of paper for a while. Her fingers moved to the phone on the table. She picked it up and put it down several times as she was in a dilemma.
She was struggling a few times. In the end, Sophie held the phone tightly in her hand and her fingers trembled as she dialed the first number.
Right after, she suddenly felt like she was burned and actually threw the phone away.
"I can’t...what about Liam?" She murmured as the struggle at the bottom of her heart clearly showed on her face.
The phone fell to the ground with a thud and Sophie did not have time to pick it up before the bathroom door suddenly opened from the inside.
In a panic, Sophie subconsciously crumpled the note in her hand and threw it into the gap between the bed and the bedside table.
Liam was drying his hair with a towel and did not notice her abnormality.
Seeing the phone on the floor, Liam froze, then leaned down to pick it up and put it back on the bedside table.
Liam just thought that Sophie was still mad at him. He lowered his head and casually threw the towel aside. Then, he wrapped his arm around Sophie's shoulders and said, "It's late. Go to sleep."
Sophie nodded and went to bed, but she did not go under the covers and kneeled at the edge of the bed. She touched Liam's hair, then picked up the hairdryer and gently blow dried his hair that was dripping wet.
Feeling her small hand gently tussling his hair, Liam suddenly felt soft-hearted. "Sophie..."
"You can't sleep with wet hair. It's not good for you." Sophie still used her customary gentle tone. "Why don’t you ever remember?"
It was a small complaint that did not make Liam angry. He only felt warm-hearted.
The day after Zayn's missing person notice was broadcasted, some people contacted them claiming to have news of Lindsey.
However, many of them were false information and many said that Lindsey had been killed. No matter what the other party said, they were all hung up on.
The hotline was bursting with phone calls, but none of them were really able to provide useful clues.
In just a few days, the incident became more intense and was the most discussed topic nationally.
Liam had done the necessary precautions, but he still could not stop everyone from talking about it. The only thing he could do was warn and threaten his employees. All the news that was transferred to Sophie's villa had also been filtered.
Sophie already found out the next day, but she pretended not to know. She picked up the little note and carefully hid it at the bottom of the cabinet.
Since Lindsey was brought in, her basic physical examinations were done by Andre and another nurse.
That day, when she opened the door and saw several people with different hair colors and the same lab coats, Lindsey had an ominous feeling in her heart.
"What are you doing?" Lindsey stood at the door and did not want to let them in.
"Ms. Juhl." One of them spoke in not-so-fluent English, "We need to observe your body before we determine the exact plan of surgery."
‘So this is what they wanna do!’
Lindsey would not budge. The doctor in charge nodded. Shortly after, two tall and strong bodyguards went up to restrain Lindsey on both arms.
She snorted coldly and glared at this group of people who could change her fate, but she just looked at them like they were beasts.
If her end was predetermined and these people were just trying to slowly eat away at her will to live, it would be better to just get it over with.
‘Hippocratic oath my *ss!’
These doctors were just discussing where their scalpel should land and how long it would take for the blood to drain out of her body for her life to end.
They were also discussing how the child would react right after they operated and took out Lindsey’s heart.
Some of them even said that this might be the world's first example of salvaging a heart from a pregnant woman's body, which was very valuable research. When the time came, the child would also be removed to study if the fetus could perceive the moment its mother died...
These words came out of the mouths of these doctors, who were so-called angels in lab coats. They were just as cruel and cold-blooded as the monsters that crawled out of hell.
Lindsey's blood rushed to her head and something flickered in her eyes. All of a sudden, she picked up a tweezer beside her that someone had left behind and aimed the sharp tip at her aorta.
She smiled and looked so beautiful that it was shocking. "Do you guys think that if I stab myself right here, you’ll have enough time to dig out my heart and place it in Sophie before I die?"
Everyone in the room was startled by her action and some even jolted to their feet.
"Don't be impulsive!" Andre suddenly rushed in front of her from behind.
His face was completely pale and his expression was glum. His eyes were fixed on the tweezers in her hand as he said, "Ms. Juhl, calm down!"
