The maids looked at each other. "We didn't receive any news of the Young Lady’s arrival either."
Liam was not there that day. If Allie came here and did not look for Sophie, then what was she doing here? Sophie suddenly thought of the treatment room attached to the garden. There seemed to be another person living there.
These days, Sophie did not see Liam going to visit his friend, so Sophie almost forgot that someone was staying there.
Allie looked like she was sneaking around because she looked around warily while walking. It was like she was afraid of being discovered.
She was not far from Sophie. When she lifted her head, she saw Sophie looking at her and let out a shriek like she was frightened.
Sophie’s brow furrowed tighter.
However, Allie quickly regained composure and nodded at Sophie. "Sophie."
After saying that, it was as if someone was chasing her from behind. She did not stop and said, "Sophie, I'll see you next time!"
Sophie did not even have time to say a word before Allie trotted away from the garden.
"What..." Sophie was puzzled by Allie's reaction and froze in place. She then asked, "Who lives in the treatment room? Why does the Young Lady look like she's seen a ghost?"
Sophie did not take it to heart that Allie did not visit her while she was sick, but she was certainly curious why Allie suddenly showed up looking like that.
The two maids were not the same ones from the manor. They glanced at each other and one of them said after some thought, "I heard that it’s a woman, and she’s pregnant."
Before she could say anything else, the other maid beside her slapped her hard. "What nonsense!"
It was not a light slap. The maid that was hit looked aggrieved and muttered, "It’s not nonsense. I heard it from the maid that’s working in the treatment room."
The maids were young and Sophie was kind to them, treating them like her friends. When the maid saw Sophie’s expression change slightly, she carefully said, "Madam, I think it’s getting a bit windy. We should go back inside."
Sophie was stunned for a moment and snapped back to her senses. She revealed a smile and said, "Alright, let’s go back."
Although Sophie did not say anything, the maid felt that her smile was a bit forced.
Sophie was indeed a bit shocked. It was hard to tell how true the maid's words were, but they probably would not lie to her about this. Was there really a pregnant woman living inside the treatment room?
Liam said that it was a friend. What kind of friends were they that Liam would bring her back for treatment?
Every woman in the world was prone to overthinking things. Although Sophie was always open-minded, she still could not control her heart and mind running wild with all the guesses.
Sophie had been in this state until Liam returned. While they ate, Liam saw that Sophie looked dazed and asked worriedly as he put down his fork, "Sophie, what’s wrong?"
"Huh?" Sophie lifted her head and looked at him a little blankly. "Oh, nothing..."
Perhaps because pregnancy and childbirth, which was something most women could do for their loved ones, seemed so unattainable to her. Even if she had her heart replaced and became a healthy woman, she might not be able to have children.
When Liam saw that Sophie looked downcast, he was worried and went over to hug her shoulders. “What’s wrong? If you don’t wanna stay here, I’ll make arrangements to send you back now.”
Sophie took a deep breath and felt that her thoughts were unexplainable. She should trust Liam. She gently took Liam's hand and smiled faintly. "I was just asking casually. If you think it’s more convenient here, then I’ll listen to you."
Before they slept at night, Sophie looked at Liam who was hugging her and almost asked him what was on her mind.
However, when she thought of a certain possibility, she could not open her mouth.
Liam’s hand was gently patting Sophie's back as he hugged her, like he was putting a child to sleep.
They had been like this for many years. When Sophie recalled Liam's dedication to her over the years, she suddenly realized that what Liam did for her was a lot more than what she did for Liam.
The thoughts in her head overwhelmed her and she could not sleep, but she did not want Liam to find out, so she maintained a position and did not move.
When it was very late at night and Sophie almost fell asleep, she suddenly felt the man beside her move.
Liam carefully pulled his arm from under Sophie’s body. He then gently kissed her forehead and got dressed before he left.
