"Liam?" Sophie called out again from over the phone.
Liam came back to his senses at once. "I'm here."
"Liam, why did you suddenly send me here? It's so far away from you." Although Sophie tried to hide it, her voice still sounded aggrieved.
Liam's hand that was holding the phone unconsciously clenched. Since the death of Sophie's parents, they were hardly ever separated.
Liam tried to make his voice sound normal. "I just have some things I need to deal with. It’ll be done soon."
"What is it?" Sophie was unrelenting. "Tell me. Are you hiding something from me? Is someone trying to hurt you?"
This was not a wild guess. In fact, Sophie had been feeling uneasy and she sounded like she was about to cry at the end of the sentence.
"No, no." Liam hastily denied it and sighed softly. "Don't go out and just stay in your room. Get Allie to accompany you. I'll be there in a while and I'll tell you when I get there, okay?"
After Liam said that, he suddenly heard Sophie’s scream. Since she was sick, her voice was also frail and soft, but this scream was extraordinarily ear-piercing.
"Sophie! Sophie?!" Liam called out to her but got no response. The fear at the bottom of his heart grew stronger. Liam clutched the phone and immediately went outside.
"Get the car now!"
"Liam, it's okay. I'm fine!" Sophie's voice rang out after she winced.
"It's really okay. Somehow there were some beads thrown on the floor and I didn't see it when I went downstairs just now, so I fell and it just hurts a little. I’m really okay." Sophie explained to Liam in a soft voice as she did not want Liam to worry too much about her.
Liam was not comforted by her words. His brows furrowed tighter, but because he was talking to Sophie, he softened his voice. “Where are your maids? What the hell were they doing? Why would there be beads on the floor?”
Sophie did not know how to answer and only said, "They were sent over to take care of Allie."
Liam stroked his brow and let out a deep breath. "Are you hurt? I'll be right there. Get someone to check your wounds first."
"It's really fine. Don't worry about it."
Hearing that he was coming over, Sophie was excited and did not even care about the pain from her fall.
When she thought of Allie upstairs, she let out a faint sigh and just hoped that Liam would not get too angry later.
Lindsey thought she would not be able to sleep in an unfamiliar environment, but unexpectedly, she slept through the night and only woke up late in the morning.
The windows had been left open last night and the breeze swept through the curtains, bringing in some fresh air. Lindsey laid there for a while and the daze she was in after just waking up gradually faded away.
She subconsciously touched her stomach, which was already growling. Lindsey sighed and sat up. At that very moment, someone knocked on the door.
"Miss, it's time for breakfast." It was the same old woman's voice from last night.
Lindsey did not respond. She would not be nice to anyone who worked for Liam Wilford.
"We’ve already secretly checked out those three places that you marked and didn’t see any familiar faces during this time. Also, as you mention earlier, Liam Wilford’s fiancée's attending doctors supposedly left Germany a few days ago for an academic exchange. We’ve verified that they’re gone, but there’s no record of them exiting the country."
All these were within Zayn's expectations. Liam must have thought of it if Zayn could think of it. He was just confirming his suspicions.
It was easy to make one person disappear silently, but it was not easy to make a group of people disappear.
......
Liam could not be sure if Zayn had already found Sophie’s whereabouts, yet he still remained cautious and did not rashly expose Sophie's location.
He went to the office first. A few minutes later, a low-profile black MPV pulled out of the underground parking lot of the tall twin towers. The car was fully tinted, tightly concealing the identity of the people inside.
Zion's gaze swept past this car without much thought, but after a while, he jerked back and stared at the license plate number.
"You guys stay here and keep an eye on any movements. I'll be back in a while."
This license plate number looked familiar. If Zion remembered correctly, when his people followed Liam to the party yesterday, this car drove out from the venue not long after Liam arrived.
Zion had a bold idea in his heart, that the person sitting in this car was Liam Wilford. This was not a clever move, but it was effective.
However, this was only his guess, so Zion quietly put on a disguise and quietly followed them.
Liam was cautious. In order not to attract attention, he only brought along the driver. Sophie did not want to hang up, so they just continued talking for a long time.
