When Callum considered this, he was fearful and kept mumbling to himself. He looked at his red-eyed sister that did not dare to cry aloud and he somehow could not bring himself to scold her.
Callum reached over to pull Yvette next to him and said, "Stop pacing! You’re making me dizzy. Come, lean on me and get some sleep."
Yvette’s eyes were as red as a rabbit’s, and she could not stop thinking about Shaun covered in blood.
"I don't want to sleep." Before she finished her sentence, she was about to cry.
Callum stroked her head and rubbed her already messy hair, making it messier. "Look at you, if I got into an accident, I doubt you’ll even be this worried."
"What are you talking about?" Yvette stood up at once and her chest was heaving. She was angry and said, "Take back what you just said! Hurry!"
Callum froze and obeyed. "Fine, fine...it’s all nonsense. I take it back." As he said this, he also lightly hit his mouth twice.
When he put his hand down, Yvette's eyes were already filled with tears.
"Brother..." Yvette’s voice was hoarse and it pricked Callum's heart. "You’re the only family I have, so you must stay safe."
Yvette was really frightened.
Callum closed his eyes to hide the tears that were welling up in them. He gently hugged Yvette and his tone was incomparably solemn. "I promise. I’ll live a long life and I’ll be your rock forever."
Soren glanced over at the two siblings. He lightly tapped his cigarette above the trash can and let out a long sigh. His gaze fell back on the small red light above the operating room.
When he retracted his gaze, he saw someone coming over from the corner of his eye. Soren subconsciously looked over, but when he saw the person walking towards him, he froze in place.
Zayn walked up to Soren and gently bumped his shoulder. Then he said, "It’ll be fine."
Quentin who was following behind Zayn also came up, revealing his classic smile, but his eyes were solemn as he said, "Stop smoking so much!"
After saying that, Quentin also gently punched the place where Zayn bumped Soren.
Since the death of the old man, Soren surprisingly felt his nose tingling again.
Soren pressed down the unfamiliar emotion tumbling in his throat and forced a smile. "Yeah, it’ll be fine."
Everything he wanted to say was in his actions and facial expression.
They grew up together. They had a superior-subordinate relationship, but they were also brothers and perhaps the closest to family.
Soren looked at the operating room close to him. A thin door panel separated him from the unknown and tormented his heart.
The moment Soren saw Sieben lying in the back seat of Yvette’s car, he clearly heard his heart pounding. For the first time in his life, there was such a strong surge of emotion that he was completely at a loss facing the girl right in front of him that was covered in blood.
Soren was even inanely terrified. He was afraid that she was not breathing. The girl that was just fighting with him in bed a while ago and had woken up mad with him, had somehow become this lifeless figure fighting for her life.
He suddenly realized that he had already fallen for her.
Zayn and Quentin greeted Callum, and the five of them waited together in the hospital corridor. Each one of them was occupied with their deep emotions.
Winter nights always seemed extra long. The first rays of sunlight shone through the window into the hospital corridor and also into the hearts of the few of them.
Yvette was startled and her tense nerves subconsciously reacted. She took a step back but quickly went forward to explore what was going on inside.
On the side, Soren also looked over.
The first one to come out was a nurse, who pushed Yvette back. "Don't block the way."
Yvette was almost pushed to the floor, not because the nurse was strong, but because Yvette’s legs were weak. The nurse hurriedly pulled her up again and said, "What's wrong? Do you have low blood sugar?"
After saying that, the nurse fumbled out a piece of chocolate from her pocket and said, "Eat this. You’ll feel better after eating something sweet."
Yvette intuitively took it and found her voice. "How is the person inside?"
She had asked this countless times that night. She had also made some silent prayers all night.
The nurse sighed when she saw Yvette’s red eyes. Yvette was shocked by the nurse’s reaction and the tears in her eyes immediately gushed out.
"No, no...the surgery is over. Don't cry." The nurse quickly said as she looked at the silent but mournful girl who was crying.
As soon as she said that, a few people came out of the operating room behind her. One of them was Shaun's attending doctor.
The doctor had a tired face when he took off his mask. Seeing Yvette crying like this, he went up to her and explained, "The patient's situation was a little complicated with multiple organ ruptures and varying degrees of damage to the brain. Now his vitals are stabilized, but we’re not sure when he’ll wake up."
When she heard these words, Yvette’s dead heart seemed to have started beating again.
