The lights in the room were not switched on. Lindsey was leaning on Zayn as the two of them laid side by side, looking very intimate.
In the darkness, Zayn said softly, "Liam Wilford has your birth parents, right?"
Before he finished his sentence, Zayn clearly felt that the person in his arms suddenly stiffened.
"Soren brought back a man who was working for Liam Wilford. He said that at that time, Liam saved you, but shortly after you woke up, he sent someone to investigate your life, including my relationship with you, and finally brought two people away. During this time, you even escaped from Liam’s villa once, right?"
Lindsey wanted to get up, but Zayn pressed her down. "Right?"
Zayn did not want her to see his current appearance.
The person in his arms nodded and gave a soft "mm".
"Why didn't you tell me?" Zayn's voice was slightly deep as it rang softly in Lindsey's ear.
"You know everything?" Lindsey asked in a soft voice.
Zayn’s nose was filled with her scent, but he could not stay calm. "I initially just guessed it, but now it’s been confirmed. Is there a lot I don’t know about?"
Lindsey was unusually silent. Her heart was in a mess. She never expected this matter to be exposed so easily to Zayn.
"Why did you run away? Why did Liam Wilford capture your parents? And why didn’t you tell me about it?" Zayn was questioning her.
During this period, the two of them were getting along so well that Lindsey had almost forgotten all the times that they were at odds with each other before.
How could she possibly tell Zayn these things?
Was she supposed to tell him that she only wanted to take revenge on him, so she traded her life for this opportunity?
Now that she was pregnant with Zayn's child, it all sounded like a big joke. She did not know how Zayn would feel about her and the child in her womb after she told him about it.
This was the first time Lindsey saw her heart. She had been running away from Zayn, agitating him and pretending she did not love him anymore, all because she did not want the man in front of her to know the truth.
Before, she could still say that all of her misfortune was because of Zayn, but after going through all this, Zayn’s love for her had given her the strength and courage to face what was to come.
Lindsey was not sure if Zayn would still continue to love her unconditionally after she told him.
Moreover, it was a promise she had to keep because the lives of the two people who brought her into this world were in Liam's hands. She did not even have the room to struggle, so she could only try to buy more time.
There was another reason. Lindsey did not know what Zayn would do after knowing that she did not have long to live. How sad would he be?
"Zayn." Lindsey’s throat was a little dry. “They’re not my parents. They just brought me into this world, that’s all. Don’t pressure me, okay?”
Lindsey’s heart was in a mess. She did not realize how much her words hurt him.
"I'm pressuring you?"
Zayn let go of her and slowly stood up. The darkness in his eyes was like obsidian in the dim light.
After his nerves settled, he regretted talking to Lindsey like that earlier.
She was still pregnant, so he should not be so tit-for-tat with her.
At this thought, Zayn ruthlessly slammed his fist on the carved pillar and the skin on the back of his hand came off, but he did not care.
Zayn kept telling himself to give her more time. Lindsey’s childhood made her extremely sensitive and she lacked affection. In particular, their relationship gave her a great sense of insecurity.
He kept telling himself to bear with it, but in the end, he still lashed out.
The two of them seemed to be getting into this habit. Whenever any one of them got emotional, the other one would immediately become irrational.
The servants in the mansion were still asleep. Zayn took a deep look at the bedroom and sucked in a deep breath of cold air, then he turned to leave.
Zayn would find out sooner or later. Now that it had been laid out in the open, he was determined to find out the truth. They could not go on like this. This feeling of not being able to control the whole situation made him very uncomfortable and he had anxiety for the unknown. He could only feel at ease when Lindsey told him the truth herself.
All he wanted was Lindsey's unreserved trust!
Zayn went to the office and did not go back to the mansion.
Mrs. Wendy noticed that something was wrong. Zayn used to call back several times a day to ask about Lindsey's condition, but today, he did not call once.
Seeing that the sky was darkening and Zayn was not back yet, Mrs. Wendy looked at Lindsey, who looked spaced out staring at a parenting book, and gently tapped her shoulder. “Did you and Zayn get into an argument again?”
