The Wilford family's home base was overseas. Even Liam Wilford's parents had settled abroad. They only had a few distant relatives in the country, so aside from special occasions, Liam would not return to the country.
Lindsey thought that Liam was just warning her not to do anything to hurt herself on the phone. She never thought that Liam would actually come back.
After all, there were far more important things for him abroad than here.
However, Lindsey thought about the fact that her life and that person were closely linked together, so it was not strange that Liam would make some unusual moves.
Whether or not Liam was in the country did not affect Lindsey.
Allie Wilford went to pick her brother up from the airport and invited Lindsey to go with her, but she refused.
It was the afternoon of the next day when Lindsey met Liam who was back from abroad.
The head of Wilford Corporation was sitting where Lindsey used to sit and raised his eyelids as he said in a warm voice, "You’re here."
Lindsey turned around and left.
"Don't be in such a hurry," Liam called out to stop her.
Lindsey turned her head. "Allie didn’t mention that you’d come to the office."
"I told her not to say anything." Liam hooked his lips into a smile, revealing his pearly whites and looking like a bright and cheerful man-child. "I wanted to surprise you. How is it? Are you happy?"
Lindsey said bluntly, "No. Since you're here, I'll leave first."
She did not want to see Liam and she could even say that she was repulsed by him.
Liam's presence meant that her time was shortening day by day, but the things she wanted to do were still progressing slowly.
"Lindsey Juhl." The man's voice rang out and carried a hint of danger, like a poisonous snake.
In the next second, Lindsey's chin was suddenly squeezed tightly.
"You probably forgot that you have one thing that belongs to me." Liam abruptly exerted some force on his fingertips. "I'm warning you to be honest with me. Since I rescued you, I can certainly send you back to the ocean floor again."
Lindsey slapped his hand away and stared back at Liam fearlessly. "Then don’t forget that we have an agreement! Also, it was Allie who rescued me, not you."
The gratitude she had for Liam had long since dissipated after learning his true purpose for rescuing her. They were now mere trade partners.
Liam suddenly laughed, but there was no hint of a smile in his eyes. "Look at you, you're no fun."
"I certainly can’t compare to you when it comes to fun. Tell me, why are you really back?"
Liam still remembered how Lindsey took a knife against his chest to force him into a deal.
That was the first time in his life he was threatened like that, but he could only concede helplessly.
Even if there was a reason to worry about Lindsey's health, the relationship between the two of them was nothing but a cold exchange of interests.
Those who were unaware might think that he had a deep affection for Lindsey.
Liam thought of this and suddenly let out a low laugh. He was suddenly a little curious about how Zayn would react if he heard this kind of statement. Zayn’s expression would probably be very amusing.
"Of course I’m worried that you’re not treating it properly in my absence."
Others would not understand what this "it" was, but the two of them were clear.
