"Fiona, what brings you here?"
"Just checking things out," Fiona replied with a cheeky grin, like a playful little imp. She teased, "Nash, your eyes are red. Have you been crying?"
"No way! What are you talking about?"
Fiona wasn't in the mood for a back-and-forth, especially with the Woods family situation weighing on her mind.
After dinner, Fiona got a call from the hospital about Erica. Her family was still refusing to make peace, but Erica's self-harm had led to serious bleeding, landing her in the emergency room.
Setting her utensils down, Fiona glanced at Jackson. "Hey, has the Larkin family situation in Willow Creek been sorted out?"
"Yeah." Before Jackson could answer, Kimberly jumped in, "Otherwise, we wouldn't be so cheerful."
Fiona thought for a moment, doubting that the problem had been settled so easily.
The Larkin family had a decent reputation in Willow Creek. Even with the Woods family breathing down their necks, it seemed too soon for them to go bankrupt. If they had indeed gone under, why wouldn't Erica's family just come clean?
Their ongoing refusal seemed odd.
Fiona couldn't shake the feeling that she was missing a piece of the puzzle.
"What's up? Something bothering you?" Jackson asked.
Fiona laid out Erica's situation, and as she suspected, it baffled not only her but Jackson and Kimberly too.
The whole thing was bizarre.
