Now it was Yvenne's turn to feel like there was something more going on with Fiona than it seemed. Was she wrong in her assumptions all along? Either way, it was a relief that Fiona hadn't jumped into the designer competition, giving Yvenne a free pass to move forward without holding back.
“I’m really sorry, but this is all the cash I have on me. If I’m lucky enough to win the championship, I swear I’ll pay you back. Just give me a bit more time, please.” Yvenne pulled out over eight hundred bucks from her pocket, along with a few loose singles, clearly showing she was down to her last penny.
She figured Fiona would at least return some of the money, considering the lengths she went to. But no, Fiona just pocketed the cash without even a glance in her direction.
“Fiona, can't you show a little compassion? You left Yvonne with nothing. How's she supposed to get by?” one of the others called out.
But Fiona's expression said it all—"not my problem"—as she headed straight for the bathroom, ignoring the shouts behind her.
As the competition's final day approached, Fiona nonchalantly submitted an old sketch under her alias, Harper. Of course, she breezed through to the next round, with the show's producers shamelessly applauding the piece for its "innovation."
Fiona nearly burst out laughing at their desperate attempt to boost ratings. But she had bigger fish to fry. She soon got word that Nash's mom was on the lookout for her.
Fiona thought for a moment before shaking her head again. “I promised her I wouldn’t spill any details about her to anyone. I’m sorry.” She handed the drafts back, seeing the disappointment wash over Nash’s mom. But then she added, “I can ask her if she’s in the designer competition.”
Nash’s mom’s face lit up with a smile, nodding eagerly. “Thank you, Fiona.”
After she left, Fiona let out a sigh and headed into school, unaware that Yvenne had caught the whole scene. Yvenne suddenly remembered seeing Nash’s mom once at the Blooming Rose Café.
