"Thank you for the car, Logan," Clara nodded and followed Logan into the dining room.
Dinner had been ready. Logan's cooking was much better than Horace's, because he had been learning it by himself when he was free at home.
He had made a lot of dishes tonight to cheer Clara up. He even took a day's leave to clean the house.
"Come take a seat," seeing that Clara was standing there, Logan said to her. He knew that Clara had changed a lot after the incident, but he didn't know that even he was estranged from her.
"Okay." Clara nodded and took a seat. Seeing that Leilah and Logan were busy in the kitchen, Clara wanted to help but gave up on the second thought. She didn't want to be the third wheel.
"Leilah, hand me the soy sauce."
"Leilah, will you help me tighten the apron?"
Clara could hear Logan's requests from the kitchen, although he was just asking Leilah for some tiny favors, they seemed really happy together. When the last dish was finished, the three of them sat beside the table and started having dinner.
"Clara, taste this." Logan put some food onto Clara's plate, and then took a look at Leilah's plate. It was subtle, but Clara noticed it.
Clara ate the food in her plate and didn't say a word.
Logan and Leilah knew that she didn't like to talk during meals, so they didn't say much words as well. They thought they could talk after dinner to cheer Clara up a little.
The dinner was finally over and Clara could sense that Logan and Leilah had been restraining themselves, trying not to be too intimate.
Then, sitting on the sofa, Clara listened quietly to Logan and Leilah's words trying to comfort her. Although they didn't make it clear what they were referring to, she knew.
After hearing their words, Clara stood up and was about to leave. It was almost the time for everyone to get off work, she needed to avoid traffic jam. However, she was happy to see Logan and Leilah in a good place.
On her way home, she kept thinking about how happy Horace and she had been. How did things turn out like this?
Wiping her tears, she focused on driving. Life had been harder and harder these days for everyone, she didn't want to add burden on their shoulders.
She had planned to go home, but she couldn't stop thinking while driving. Somehow, she drove to Horace's company. She checked the time on her watch, there were ten minutes before they got off work.
The Solrace Corporation and the magazine publishing company were both owned by Horace. Therefore, the off-work time was the same. She parked the car and walked into the building. The receptionist recognized her.
"Mrs. Kirkland, what can I do for you?" the receptionist asked cautiously when she saw Clara's sullen face. It was her job to ask, but she could tell Clara was not in a good mood right now.
"Do you miss me?" Clara's heart beat fast when she felt Horace's body temperature. Horace buried his head in her neck as he smelled the fragrance on her, waiting for her answer.
"Horace, get off of me." Clara felt embarrassed, as if she was peeping and caught. Horace knew that Clara might get mad if he didn't listen.
After he got off her, Clara found that his eyes were red. She didn't say a word, but glanced around the room and walked out.
"You can go on. I'll wait for you outside." Clara saw the toy Neo left here when they were playing hide-and-seek the other day.
She thought Horace might have thought of Neo when he saw the toy.
But as a man, he didn't want to cry in front of her. Therefore, he had been crying in there and she accidentally barged in. Clara's mind was in a mess.
She knew she was still in love with Horace, but she dared not get close to him, fearing that he would remind her of Neo. She knew that Horace was equally as sad as she was, he just never showed it.
Gradually, her guard was off. But still, there was something stuck in her heart, making her unable to forgive Horace. When Horace walked out of the lounge, he saw Clara standing there and lost in thought.
"What's wrong? What's on your mind?" Horace held in his arms and asked. Clara looked up at him, trying to suppress the surging sadness in her heart.
