"What? Why? Because that bitch asked you to?" Shane snapped. Hearing his words, the chief editor understood why Clara didn't like him. He was ill-mannered.
"How could you call Mrs. Kirkland that?" the chief editor frowned and refuted. She liked Clara and her boss Horace a lot, so she was displeased when she heard someone call Clara a bitch.
"Mrs. Kirkland?" Shane was stunned at these two words. So, Clara was able to get him fired because she was Horace's wife? Even after Shane walked out of the company building, his mind was still in a blank.
"Clara, I've fired Shane. You can come back to work now," the chief editor said to Clara on the phone. She wasn't trying to butter Clara up, but she did talk to Clara in a much gentler tone than that she used when she was talking to the others.
"I see. Thank you, Madam." Clara nodded, hung up the phone and was about to go upstairs. She had been sitting in the café downstairs and was sure the chief editor would do as she said.
However, coincidently, she met Shane on the way. Clara straightened her back when she passed by Shane, only to hear Shane say, "I underestimated you, Clara."
Clara raised her brow and said nothing. She walked back to the office in high heels. On her way, there were people staring at her with inquisitive eyes, she stared back at them and they all lowered their heads.
It was no until she got back to her desk and checked the time that she found she had wasted almost the whole morning. When she was about to start working, she heard Leilah's words.
"Clara, are you okay?" Leilah knew what had been going on with Clara, but she didn't know how to ask her about it. She walked to Clara and asked in a low voice full of concern.
"I'm fine." Seeing the worried look on Leilah's face, Clara realized that they hadn't seen each other in a long time. Clara forced a smile and rubbed Leilah's head.
Then, she went on with her work. On the other side, Horace got news from the HR department, saying that Clara had asked to fire Shane. So, there was one more left?
He then asked his men to put some pressure on Shane by sending a message to all the companies in the city— if any of them hired Shane, they would be Horace's enemy. Now that the Solrace Corporation had become one of the top 10 enterprises in the whole country, not many companies would want to have conflicts with it. Moreover, the bigger companies wouldn't even consider Shane as their candidate.
If anyone dared to offend Horace, he would make him regret it. Although Shane was just an accomplice in everything, Horace still thought he had been too merciful to him.
In the following months, Clara was either working in the company or looking for Neo. However, she didn't find anything. But she didn't give up, because she knew how hard it would be.
"Clara, do you want to have dinner at Logan's place?" Leilah looked at Clara and invited her over for dinner. Although Logan knew how Clara had been, he didn't invite her home because he was worried it might touch a raw nerve of her.
Leilah insisted on having her over for dinner, saying that Clara would feel better and she could talk to Logan and bond with him.
"Okay," Clara nodded and agreed. It had been a long time since she last saw Logan. But as a matter of fact, Logan had visited her several times when she was mentally unstable.
Seeing her like that, Logan felt sorry. But there was nothing he could do. He could only pray that the medicine could take effect soon and Clara could get better soon.
Clara took a look and her, smiled and shook her head. Then she walked to the underground parking lot to get the car. When she arrived, she saw a brand-new ORV parked there and couldn't help walking over.
As soon as she saw the note on it, she was surprised. It wrote on the note, "For my dear sister, Clara." Clara was stunned.
It suddenly occurred to her that she once asked Logan to give her a car as a gift. She had forgotten all about it. Logan had kept that in mind?
Therefore, she drove it instead of her own car, which still looked new. Seeing her driving in that brand-new ORV, Leilah remembered. She almost forgot about this. Luckily, Clara found it herself.
"Get in," Clara said, regaining her composure. Leilah somehow felt as if they had gone back to the time when they first met each other and when she had to be careful with her words and not to offend Clara.
She found that it was just Clara's disguise and that she was a warm-hearted person inside. But now, it was different, a lot of things had happened recently and they had changed Clara into a different person.
They didn't say anything on their way home. Clara hadn't had much words recently, while Leilah was simply worried that her words might upset Clara. Leilah simply stared out of the window at the scenery and thought they could talk after they got home.
Soon, they arrived. Logan had been waiting for them at the door. Seeing that Clara had lost weight, he felt sorry for her, but didn't say anything about it. He wanted to cheer her up instead of making her sad.
"Hey! You are driving the car I bought you!" Logan said, looking surprised. He had been worried Clara might reject it, and now, he could be relieved.
