Jared immediately tensed up, instinctively rushing to explain himself. "Mr. Foster, Ms. Evert and I were strictly discussing business!"

Carson chuckled lightly. "Of course. What else would you be discussing?"

Jared turned pale and awkwardly stood up. The composed, mature aura he had earlier vanished completely. He forced a stiff laugh. "Ms. Evert and I have basically covered everything. I won't interrupt you any further, Mr. Foster. I'll be going now."

Carson smiled lazily. "Finished right as I walked in? You're not hiding some corporate secrets you don't want me to hear, are you?"

Cold sweat was now visibly beading on Jared's forehead. "No, of course not. This project originated from your company, you already know all the details. We have nothing to hide from you."

Seeing how panicked Jared was—and how Carson was clearly doing it on purpose—Marina stepped in to bail him out. "We're actually done here. Mr. Bailey, we can go over the rest on the phone."

Jared nodded aggressively. "Absolutely!"

"Is that so?" Carson laughed softly. "Then I won't keep you, Mr. Bailey."

"Not at all, Mr. Foster!" Jared quickly grabbed his briefcase. "The bill is already taken care of. Please, enjoy your evening."

He practically sprinted out the door.

The moment Jared was gone, Marina's face turned to ice. "Carson, what the hell are you playing at?"

Carson looked at her calmly. "He's been sending you flowers for days. Why didn't you ask him what he was playing at?"

Marina was stunned. "How did you know about that?"

Carson smirked. "Why wouldn't I know about things concerning my fiancée?"

Marina glared at him. "Carson, we are broken up!"

Marina tried to yank her arm away. "None of your business!"

Carson stood up, refusing to let go. His dark eyes locked onto hers, studying her intently. Suddenly, a smirk played on his lips. "Marina, do you feel like you've changed?"

"Changed how?" she replied coldly.

Carson gave a soft laugh. "Remember back at the eco-resort? You caught me with another woman in the middle of the night, and you didn't care at all. You even invited her back to the room for drinks. So why is it that now, just hearing I might get a new girlfriend makes you furious enough to storm out?"

Marina froze.

"You care now, don't you?" His voice dropped lower, his gaze softening into something far more dangerous and seductive. "You can't stand the thought of me being with another woman anymore, can you?"

Marina's eyes welled with red. She spoke slowly. "You're right. I'm not who I used to be. After all those times you said you could melt my heart... after you fought for that bouquet at the church... I actually believed you. I forgot what kind of person you really are! It was my mistake, and now I'm fixing it. Understand?"
