Phoebe shot the couple one last venomous glare before turning sharply and dragging her dog back toward the house.

After taking a shower and crawling into bed, Marina received a WhatsApp message from Carson: *I'm home.*

Marina rolled onto her side, holding her phone with both hands as she typed her reply: *Get some sleep then. Goodnight!*

Carson: *Can't sleep. Thinking about my little vixen.*

Marina frowned, her thumbs flying across the screen: *Don't call me that!*

Carson: *Then who gets to call you that?*

Marina: *Erin gave me that nickname back in school. It's not exactly a compliment!*

Carson: *I like it.*

Marina's heartbeat stuttered. She quickly shot back: *If you like it so much, you can keep it. I'm going to sleep. Not replying anymore!*

Carson: *It's a deal then. The little vixen is all mine.*

Seeing him deliberately twist her words, Marina felt a mix of frustration and amusement. She gripped her phone, fully intending to chew him out, but slowly backspaced the message. Closing her eyes, she couldn't stop the corners of her lips from curling upward.

Staring at the texts, Marina felt an indescribable sense of weirdness. In the past, they used to go weeks without seeing each other. When did he suddenly start reporting his daily movements to her?

A moment later, Marina finally sent him one last reply: *Got it.*

Carson seemed to be busy, taking a few minutes before replying: *Make sure you miss me.*

"Marina!"

Trixie stood up with a bright smile, looking incredibly proud as she made the introductions. "This is my boyfriend, Colby Jensen."

She then turned to Colby. "And just like Summer, this is my high school classmate and best friend, Marina!"

Colby studied Marina for a couple of seconds before smiling and offering his hand. "Nice to meet you, Marina."

Marina gave his hand a polite, brief shake. "Nice to meet you too."

They all took their seats, chatting casually as they looked over the menu.

Throughout the conversation, Trixie made sure to drop heavy hints about Colby's impressive background. His parents both worked for the government, and he had an uncle who was a high-ranking official in another state. Colby himself was highly accomplished—he had studied abroad in M Country and returned to become an executive at a top-tier corporation. In short, he came from a stellar family and had a blindingly bright future.

Marina and Summer offered all the appropriate praise. Colby smiled with rehearsed humility, while Trixie looked undeniably smug.
