It was like a storm brewing in my gut. Maybe it’s because he
didn’t say goodbye, or maybe because I felt I should have left
with them. But every fiber of me was screaming that
something was wrong.
So to distract myself, I joined a few of the Lunas in the east
sitting room.
The warmth of the fire crackling in the hearth and the soft
hum of their conversation should have calmed me, but my
thoughts kept drifting to Asher.
“Queen Violet,” May’s voice cut through the haze. She was one
of the Lunas. I couldn’t remember her husband’s name. “You
look like you’re a million miles away!”
“I’m fine,” I said quickly, forcing a smile. “Just.nervous.”
The other Lunas exchanged glances, and May leaned forward,
placing a hand on my arm, “It’s about King Asher, isn’t it? You’re
worried about him.”
I hesitated. I wasn’t used to share my worries and insecurity
with the others. But today I really needed to share.
“I can’t help it. He’s out there risking everything, and I’m stuck
here.waiting.”
“That’s what it’s like being a Luna,” another Luna Sophia said
with a sigh. “The waiting is always the hardest part.”
One of the older Lunas Greta sipped her tea and chimed in,
“You’ll get used to it. They always come back.”
I wanted to believe her, but the knot in my stomach didn’t
loosen. “Do they?” I asked quietly, more to myself than anyone
else.
May gave me a sympathetic smile, trying to lighten the mood.
“You have to trust him. Asher’s not just any Alpha–he’s the
King. If anyone can handle this, it’s him.”
The others murmured in agreement, and I managed a small,
forced smile. Their words helped, a little, but not enough to
erase my unease. I’d decided to go to every battle from now on.
Screw the tradition. A Queen could fight.
The conversation shifted to lighter topics, and I found myself
relaxing slightly. We talked about life in the palace, and they
shared stories of their own packs.

“Things have gotten better here, haven’t they?” Sophia said
after a pause. “When we first came to the King’s court, the
tension was so thick you could cut it with a knife! People were
terrified.”
“They still are,” Greta added with a wry smile. “But it’s not
because of King Asher or Violet. It’s what the old King and
Queen did to them. That kind of fear doesn’t fade overnight.”
May leaned forward again, her gaze curious, “Speaking of,
Violet. what’s the story with Kylie? Why hasn’t she gone back
to Silver Moon Pack?”
Kylie.
The question hit harder than I expected. My grip tightened on
the teacup, my throat tight.
Kylie was the last person I wanted to talk about right now. If it
weren’t for her, my daughter wouldn’t be in a coma, and my
mate wouldn’t be out fighting this war right now. I hated her so
much. Even the simple mention of her name made me sick.
May and other Lunas didn’t know the things about Kylie and
Isaac, so I was sure she didn’t ask that question on purpose. But
still, I couldn’t bring myself to answer her.
Chapter94
Luckily, Olivia jumped out to save the moment, “It’s
complicated. Let’s not waste our time on it. May, I love your
dress.”
May realized that she had asked the wrong question and
quickly went on to talk about her dress and jewelry.
I shot Olivia a grateful glance, but the mention of Kylie left a
bitter taste in my mouth.
Just then, I caught a glimpse of movement through the
window. The seer was walking across the courtyard, her robes
flowing behind her like a whisper of wind. Something about
