Chapter 191
Violet’s POV
“Violet, this was for your own good.” Charlotte stood in front of
me, her face lined with guilt, her hands trembling slightly at her
sides.
My pulse pounded in my ears. I couldn’t believe what I was
hearing. My mother, the woman who had spent my entire life
protecting me, had chosen to betray me.
“For my own good?” My voice shook with disbelief. “You tried
to kill my child!”
Her lips pressed together, pain flashing in her eyes. “The blood
curse will only get worse. You’re already suffering, and it’s only
a matter of time before it-”
I took a sharp step back, my wolf stirring violently inside me.
She didn’t want to hear excuses. Neither did I. My skin prickled,
heat rising, my body teetering between control and chaos. My
nails sharpened against my palms.
Charlotte moved closer, reaching for me. “Violet, please, you

have to understand. We were trying to save you.”
“You lied to me.” My breath came out in sharp pants. My vision
blurred at the edges. The betrayal ran too deep, the pain too
sharp. My mother. My mate. They had gone behind my back,
made a decision that was never theirs to make. My wolf
growled, pushing against my restraint. She wanted to rip, to
tear, to make them suffer the way they had made me suffer.
Pain shot through my bones as they cracked under the
pressure. My wolf was taking over.
Suddenly, a firm grip wrapped around me from behind.
Asher.
His arms locked around me, holding me against his chest. His
voice was a murmur against my ear.
“Violet. Breathe.”
“Let me go.” I struggled against Asher’s grip. My claws digged
into his forearm.
“No,” he whispered. “I won’t.”
I twisted, but his hold only tightened. He didn’t fight back,

didn’t restrain me in pain. He just held on, letting me release the
storm of rage without hurting anyone.
Then, a sharp scent filled the air.
I looked down, my claws buried in his skin, red dripping from
the wounds. It was Asher’s blood.
He ignored the pain. His forehead rested against my shoulder,
his arms still locked around me. “It’s okay,” he murmured. “Let it
out.”
Charlotte took a hesitant step forward, but Asher turned his
head slightly, his voice suddenly strict. “Leave. And tell
everyone to empty this place.”
She froze.
“I’ll handle this,” he said, his tone leaving no room for argument.
For a moment, I thought she would protest. But then, with one
last look at me, she stepped away. The door clicked shut behind
her.
“How could you?” As my consciousness slowly returned, I
painfully asked him.

Asher’s grip loosened, but he didn’t let go completely. “Violet-”
“You tried to kill our child!” His body tensed behind me. I
shoved him away, stumbling back. “How could you!” My voice
cracked.
His jaw clenched. “Because I had to choose between you and the
baby. And I will always choose you.”
“You had no right.” I stared at him, my chest heaving.
“Yes, I do! You are my mate! My life! If you die, nothing else will
matter!”
I shook my head, taking another step back. “We don’t know
that.”
“The Prophet did.” I sucked in a breath. Asher ran a hand
through his hair, his shoulders taut with exhaustion. “I didn’t
have a choice.”
“You did have a choice, Asher.“I let out a bitter laugh. “But you
chose to do this behind my back.””
“We could have other children, Violet-” His throat bobbed as he
swallowed.

My hands curled into fists. “No, we can’t.”
His expression froze.
I took a slow, shaky breath, blinking against the tears burning
my eyes. “The Prophet told me,” I whispered. “This child is the
only one we’ll ever have.”
His face lost all color. A thick silence filled the room. I watched
the devastation flicker across his face. And then, before he
could say anything else, I turned and ran.
I didn’t stop until I reached my chambers. My hands fumbled
with the lock, the door clicking shut behind me.
I pressed my back against it, gasping for breath. My chest ached,
my body shaking from the mix of rage, grief, and betrayal.
