Chapter148
She smiled knowingly. “Probably not. Because there’s only one
person who can help us now!”
I already knew the answer before she spoke it.
“Michael.”
Asher’s POV
I glared at her, feeling betrayed.
“No.” The word left my mouth before she even finished her
sentence. “I want nothing to do with Michael. I don’t care what
he knows or what he’s done. Until I figure out what to do about
him, I refuse to even say his name.”
Violet’s grip tightened around my wrist. “Asher, I know you’re
angry. You have every reason to be, but this isn’t about you or
me–it’s about our people. If we’re going to take down the council
and Alpha Xavier, we need someone who knows what’s
happening behind the scenes. And Michael is exactly that
person.“‘

I shook her off, exhaling sharply. “I know what’s going on here. You want to protect your brother again, just like what you did back at the trial. But don’t involve me this time. I put my foot down.”
I could see the frustration in her eyes. Michael was special to her. They two grew up together and shared a special bond. Even Michael’s betrayal couldn’t break that bond. She might be able to forgive him, but I couldn’t.
The man tortured me, broke me. Forgiveness wasn’t even in my vocabulary right now. I would never let myself forget what he did. I was also kind of mad at Violet that she had put it behind her already.
“This isn’t about Max being my brother,” she continued, her tone more urgent. “It’s about the fact that he knows Alpha Xavier’s weaknesses. We can use that to our advantage.
Her logic made sense. But it didn’t change the fact that every time I looked at Michael, all I wanted to do was rip him apart.
“How do you know he has Alpha Xavier’s weakness?”
She hesitated and didn’t answer.
“You’ve clearly spoken to him,” I said, narrowing my eyes. “So
what does he know?”
I knew she was planning something the moment she told me
she needed to rest. She hadn’t been exhausted–she’d been
buying time. I should’ve seen it coming. She went to see the
man who wanted me dead.
The feeling of being betrayed was burning in my chest.
“I don’t know if it matters to you, but Michael did all of it to
protect me!” she said. “He did everything Xavier asked of him to
keep us safe!
I scoffed folding my arms. “Oh, so now he’s some kind of noble
hero? He’s just manipulating you. Violet.”
She stood abruptly, stepping away from my lap, her expression sharp. “Can you just listen instead of constantly trying to tear
him down?”
I clenched my jaw. “I just don’t understand how you can buy into his excuses after everything he put me through”
“Because I talked to him. And I see things that you don’t. Honestly, if you wanted a lap dog that agreed with you on everything, you should’ve bought one instead of being with
me,” she shot back, her voice laced with venom.
Chapter148
That stung.
I knew she had every right to her opinion, but hearing her defend Michael like this made me feel used. Even though I knew I shouldn’t. I wasn’t asking her to take sides–I just wanted
her to see reason.
“I’m not siding with anyone,” she continued, her voice softer now. “But you and I both know Michael’s story doesn’t add up. No one can feel their mate bond break before meeting their
mate.”
“Kylie did,” I countered. “And we all believed it.”
“To be fair, Kylie was actually suffering. We had no reason to doubt her,” she replied.
