Chapter 48

Get Bonus

The next morning, Elaina wearily got out of bed. After being tormented by stomachache for a night, she dared not to miss breakfast even though she was sleepy.

When Elaina walked toward the kitchen, the doorbell rang. She was surprised, not

knowing who would visit her early in the morning.

Elaina walked to open the door with doubts.

When she saw Jalen, she was shocked.

Elaina wondered what Jalen was going to do.

“Have you had breakfast?” Jalen asked.

Elaina shook her head. When she was curious about what Jalen wanted to do, he came in

with a box with “Magnolia Bakery” on it.

Elaina knew Magnolia Bakery. It was famous in New York. It was said its banana

pudding was delicious. She had always wanted to give it a try.

So…

Did Jalen deliberately bring breakfast to Elaina?

“Have a try. You will like it,” Jalen said and put the puddings on the table.

Elaina stood there unmoved for a long time to make sure it was not her illusion. “Did

you come here to bring me breakfast?”

“Not really. I happened to want to eat banana puddings, so I ordered some more,” Jalen

replied. His voice was cold and emotionless.

Elaina realized she had thought too much.

Elaina walked over hesitantly and looked at the puddings in front of her. She still

couldn’t believe it. “Mr. Halton, I didn’t expect you to be so nice.”

Elaina’s words were somewhat mocking. She did not really think that.

However, Jalen did not know that. He said with a faint smile, “Don’t you know I have always been nice?”

Elaina laughed at Jalen secretly.

They ate puddings face to face and said nothing more,

When Jalen met Elaina at Haizea, Elaina refused one of her colleagues with the excuse of

divorce.

At that moment, Jalen thought that was Elaina’s excuse. However, what Quincy found

the night before proved it was a fact instead of an excuse.

Elaina looked up at Jalen. His question meant he had found something.

It was not out of Elaina’s expectations. Since Jalen had known she had divorced, he must have known her name. However, he still did not know she was his ex-wife.

It seemed that Jalen had not paid any attention to his wife, who had married him for

two years. He did not even know her name.

Elaina nodded. “Yes.”

“You…” Jalen wanted to say something but hesitated.

“Mr. Halton, what do you want to know?” Elaina looked at Jalen with a smile.

Jalen thought for a moment and said, “I just didn’t expect you to be neglected, Dr. Gainsford.”
