Tyrone suddenly made a phone call, "Hey, Kevin, didn't your cousin mention something about a Susanna Harrison lending money at exorbitant rates? Someone was short a grand and couldn't pay back, and she had them taken out, right? Yeah, that's the one. We should probably call the cops."
After hanging up, Tyrone dialed another number.
"Is the Harringtons' Phase 2 housing project still under construction? Weren't there complaints last month about serious quality issues and the shortchanging of construction workers' wages, pushing some to the brink? With such shoddy work, why let it continue?"
Mrs. Harrington, Alexander, and Serena were all stunned into silence.
Tyrone tapped his knee idly, "Of course, I want to swallow it up. I've got plans for a shopping center there. I've had my eye on that spot for a while. Better to take it now than wait for it to turn into a failed project."
After hanging up, Tyrone noticed everyone staring at him.
The pain on Mrs. Harrington's face was forgotten as she looked at Tyrone in disbelief.
The 'Susanna' Tyrone mentioned, involved in predatory lending, was her under a pseudonym. She thought her secret was safe, yet Tyrone knew every detail.
And the Harringtons' construction project, Phase 2, already infamous for wage disputes and quality issues, had been a scandal they managed to hush with money, avoiding media exposure. Yet, Tyrone knew it all, and with just a phone call, had them cornered.
Mrs. Harrington's palms were sweaty with fear.
Mrs. Harrington snapped back to reality, realizing the grave mistake she had made. Mrs. York wasn't just Mrs. York; she was the heiress of Oakville City's prestigious Farley family, her maternal home no less influential than the York family.
Either family could easily overpower the Harringtons, and a united front would leave them no ground to stand on.
With this realization, Mrs. Harrington was filled with dread.
Despite the burning sensation on her face, Mrs. Harrington had to suppress her anger, quickly apologizing, "Cecilia, I'm sorry, truly sorry... It was all my arrogance before... I've wronged you despite your kindness and opposed you at every turn... I won't do it again..."
