A malicious glint shone in Felicity’s eyes, as dark and murky as a swamp. The smile on her lips widened as she silently counted in her head.
After half a minute, Harrison’s voice returned, tight and strained. “I’ll have my secretary contact a few designers in Italy. They’ll send their latest collections to the Thompson estate.”
“Harrison, thank you! You’re so good to me.”
Before she could finish, the line went dead.
Felicity let out a breath, clutching her phone as a victorious smile danced in her eyes.
“Darling, where are you going?” Matilda asked, seeing Felicity abruptly stand and head for the door.
Felicity paused, looking down at her mother with an air of superiority. “This place is beneath me. If you like these dresses, feel free to keep looking. Dad will pay for it, I’m sure.”
With that, she swept out of the salon.
The consultants huddled around Matilda exchanged bewildered glances.
“What’s her problem?” one whispered to another.
“We’re one of the most exclusive bridal boutiques in Capital City!”
“I thought she made the appointment herself. If she looks down on us, why even bother coming?”

As evening fell, dark clouds gathered. After a flash of lightning and a clap of thunder, rain began to pour down, drumming against the windows. The city’s neon lights shimmered in the countless droplets streaking down the glass.
Selene leaned back in her office chair, stretching her arms high above her head. She pulled up the live feed from her home security cameras on her computer screen. Her apartment was brightly lit, and in the warm-toned kitchen stood a tall, well-built man.
Adrian was cooking, holding a wok in one hand and a spatula in the other, expertly tossing the ingredients. He worked quickly. After plating one dish and giving the wok a quick rinse, he cracked an egg against the rim with one hand, letting the yolk and white drop neatly into the hot pan.
Just a few months ago, Adrian hadn’t known the first thing about cooking. She’d heard he enrolled in a domestic arts course, learning about plating, nutrition, and household management alongside a dozen aspiring high-society homemakers. He’d even gotten his nutritionist certification and was supposedly now studying for a childcare license.
