Leo lowered his gaze, his voice gentle. “Alright, I’ll do as you say.”

Selene glanced over at him. “Have you had dinner yet, Professor?”

“Not yet.”

“Then why don’t you join us for some barbecue?”

As soon as Selene made the offer, Leo looked at Adrian, a small smile tugging at his lips. “Sure, I’d love to.”

Adrian arched an eyebrow, eyes widening in mischievous delight, like a cat discovering something interesting. He kept a close watch on Leo, studying his every move.

One of the plainclothes security officers who’d come with Leo stepped forward when he realized Leo planned to eat in the restaurant. “Please wait just a moment, sir.”

The guard picked up a plate, took a piece of meat, and ran a quick test on it—both a taste and a chemical check for safety. Only after he was satisfied did he step aside with a respectful nod. “Thank you for waiting, sir. Please enjoy your meal.”

Leo maneuvered his wheelchair to the table, settling beside Selene on her right.

Selene and Adrian sat on the same side of the booth. Seeing that it’d be tricky for Leo to handle the barbecue on his own, Selene helped by placing a few perfectly grilled pieces onto his plate.

“Here you go, Professor.”

“Thank you.” Leo’s tone was warm, and he didn’t stand on ceremony. “Selene, would you mind getting me some vegetables too?”

Selene moved quickly. Adrian couldn’t hold back a snarky remark. “You sure don’t hesitate to boss people around, do you?”

Rolling up his sleeves, he added, “Let me serve Dr. Vaughn instead.”

Selene shot him a look. “You’re all the way on the inside. It’s easier if I do it.”

Adrian huffed in defeat, glaring at Leo. “I bet you had an ulterior motive for staying to eat with us.”

Sensing the tension between the two men, Selene placed some vegetables on Adrian’s plate. “You should eat something, keep your mouth busy.”

Adrian let out a disgruntled snort, propping his chin on his hand. His voice took on a wounded tone. “So, are you annoyed I talk too much, or just trying to comfort me?”

Selene teased, “Isn’t talking your superpower, Attorney Shaw?”
