Dumping The Ice King His Mini-Tyrant novel Chapter 455

Leo was awake now, half his face hidden behind an oxygen mask. His assistant sat in a chair at his bedside, speaking to him in a low voice.

On the nightstand beside the hospital bed, a laptop and a towering stack of folders formed a precarious little mountain.

As soon as Leo regained consciousness, his assistant had texted Selene, letting her know when she could come visit.

Just as Selene made her way down the corridor, she spotted a group of officials exiting Leo’s room. Outside the door, a dozen security guards stood at attention, their presence unmistakable.

Leo’s sharp gaze found Selene. Her feet suddenly felt as heavy as lead, each step toward his bed slow and difficult. She had never seen him like this before.

In her memory, Leo was always imposing—a pillar of strength and quiet authority. He had shown her what a truly capable man could be. He stood before her like a mountain, shielding her from life’s tempests, guiding her growth. He was both a mentor and the shining target she desperately wanted to chase, maybe even surpass one day.

Now he lay pale as marble, his skin almost translucent, like a fragile ice sculpture that might melt away in the sunlight. She felt as if she could never truly hold onto him.

Leo turned his head and glanced at his assistant.

The assistant stepped forward and gently removed the oxygen mask from Leo’s face.

“I heard you had twins—a boy and a girl. I’ve brought a little gift to welcome them to the world.”

Leo's voice was softer and deeper than usual, every word costing him effort, though he tried not to let it show. He radiated the stubborn pride of a man who refused to appear weak.

The assistant handed Selene a long, rectangular wooden box.

She opened it and found a pair of silver lockets nestled inside.

Her eyes stung with emotion, her voice catching. “Thank you, Father.”

“Go home and get some rest,” Leo replied, his tone listless, making it clear he didn’t want her to worry about his condition.

Selene sat in the chair by his bedside and noticed the dried blood beneath Leo’s fingernails. In his current state, he couldn’t bathe himself, and the hospital had probably arranged for a nurse to help him. But knowing Leo, proud as he was, it would take time before he allowed anyone to tend to him like that.

Without a word, Selene stood and filled a basin with warm water in the bathroom. She returned, set the bowl on the nightstand, and wrung out a soft cloth. Gently, she cradled Leo’s hand and began to clean his fingers.

Leo’s eyes widened in surprise. Though his mind screamed at him to pull his hand away, his body refused to cooperate. He could only watch as Selene bent over his hand, gently wiping away the grime.

“Let me take care of it,” the assistant said quickly, standing up.

But Selene shook her head. “Could you bring me some cotton and toothpicks?”

At her request, the assistant glanced at Leo, then hurried off to gather the supplies.
