Selene’s ears perked up at the sound of Daph’s name. She and Altair immediately straightened in their seats, suddenly alert.

The crimson stage curtains parted to reveal Luke Holloway, front and center beneath the spotlight.

He was impossible to miss.

Tall and broad-shouldered, Luke wore fitted black slacks and an open black vest that showcased his sun-kissed chest. The stage lights spilled across his skin, dramatic shadows carving his muscles into even sharper relief.

Parents who had been drifting off in the dim auditorium suddenly snapped to attention, eyes glued to the stage.

She leaped gracefully from one stand to the next, moving as nimbly as if she were on flat ground. In perfect time with the drumbeat, she lifted the lion’s head and tumbled, flipping again and again in a blur that left the audience breathless.

The pink lion hopped down onto the giant drum, joining Luke Holloway in a playful dance.

Where the auditorium had been half-empty moments ago, people now flooded in, eager not to miss the performance.

“Is this a professional show? Who’s the kid in the lion costume?”
