“You’re struggling too, aren’t you? Harrison, please—help me! If this keeps up, we’re both going to lose our minds!”
“Don’t touch me!” Harrison twisted away, his voice strained. “Felicity! Get a grip! For God’s sake, get off me!”
Felicity braced her hands on his shoulders, refusing to let go. “Harrison, whatever we were drugged with—if we don’t do something, it’s only going to get worse. The pain, the heat—once it reaches its peak, we’ll go completely mad. We’ll lose control, maybe even hurt each other…”
Her wild eyes locked on his, a feverish desperation burning in their depths. “We should end this while we’re still sane—before it’s too late!”
“Don’t be crazy!” Harrison shouted, his voice cracking. “I mean it! Get off me! Or we’re done—we can’t even be friends after this!”
Felicity snapped, “I don’t need you to take responsibility! I’m not some delicate little flower obsessed with purity! We’re just trying to survive here. Once this wears off, we’ll go back to how we were!”
“No!” Harrison’s reply was cold and final.
Felicity’s voice turned pleading, thick with frustration. “Harrison, I’m literally throwing myself at you here! Why are you being so uptight? We’re saving each other’s lives!”
Harrison felt his scalp prickle, his fists clenched so tight his knuckles blanched, straining against the cuffs binding his wrists.
“I am not sleeping with you, no matter what!”
Felicity was about to lose it. “If we don’t do something, we’re toast! What’s your problem? You’re divorced from Selene now—what are you still hung up on? We’re friends—just help me out for God’s sake!”
The mention of Selene hit Harrison like a punch. His eyes went wide, her name like a thousand tiny needles stabbing into his chest, making his entire body ache.
Felicity cupped his face in her hands, her touch desperate. “Harrison, I want to save you! Please, I’m begging you—save me too!”
He tried to kick her off, but with Felicity straddling him, he couldn’t budge.
“Get off!” he roared, just as Felicity’s face loomed closer in his vision.
Harrison twisted violently, tumbling both of them to the floor.
“Agh!” Felicity screamed in pain as Harrison scrambled away like a man escaping a fire, clambering to his feet as fast as he could.
She lay sprawled on the floor, crying out, “Harrison! How could you? That really hurt!”
Harrison glared down at her, Felicity barely covered by a scrap of fabric.
Suddenly, his heart skipped a beat—beating so hard it felt like it might tear through his chest.
His vision blurred, doubling—when Felicity looked up at him, her face contorted in pain, but where she should have been, he saw Selene’s face instead.
Rage and something darker flooded his veins, his body trembling violently, almost beyond his control.
