“I did NOT!” Harrison was about to lose his mind—how dare Adrian insult him like this?
What a venomous man!
“Selene, you have to believe me!”
Harrison had never pleaded with anyone before, never humbled himself like this.
For the first time in his life, he tasted the bitterness of being unable to defend himself.
He stood rooted to the spot, completely alone.
Behind Selene, the city’s elite whispered among themselves, their voices low but cutting.
“Is Mr. Vaughn even hurt? He looks perfectly fine—honestly, it’s Mr. Shaw who looks like he’s been through a war.”
“Obviously, Mr. Shaw was the one bullied here.”
“This isn’t the first time Mr. Vaughn’s targeted Mr. Shaw. I saw him punch Shaw with my own eyes the other day.”
“I heard Vaughn once emptied a bottle of soap on Shaw in the restroom. I bet this time, Vaughn dumped wine on him on purpose just because he doesn’t like the guy!”
“Vaughn’s obviously trying to steal Miss Thompson from Shaw. What’s this about going to a private room with just her? Look at those marks—he was clearly making a move!”
“I’m Team Shaw. He’s the official boyfriend now! Vaughn’s just the ex—what, is he trying to be the other man?”
The gossip swirling around him made Harrison’s face darken almost to black.
“What do you mean ‘the other man’?” he shot back indignantly. “Are you all out of your minds? I, Harrison, would never be the other man!”
Adrian just smiled, taunting, “All I know is, the unloved one always ends up as the sidepiece.”
A storm gathered over Harrison’s features as he looked at Selene, desperate to know what she thought of him now.
But Selene didn’t spare him so much as a glance.
Instead, she looked Adrian over from head to toe, her gaze sharp with concern.
“Are you hurt anywhere?”
“Right here,” Adrian said, pointing at his cheek with exaggerated sorrow.
Harrison’s eyes widened. “I didn’t hit you!”
Selene reached out, her delicate fingers brushing lightly across Adrian’s cheek.
Adrian leaned into her touch like a pampered golden retriever, tilting his head and beaming a cherubic smile. His eyes glowed with obvious longing for her gentle attention.
