“Do you think Mr. Shaw was already interested in her back when she was still Ms. Thompson, or even Mrs. Vaughn?”
“No wonder Mr. Shaw’s been single for so long! Turns out he’s been secretly pining after another man’s wife all along!”
The guests were absolutely thrilled by the gossip, some so excited they could barely sit still.
“Wait, does that mean that while Miss Thompson was still married to Mr. Vaughn, she and Mr. Shaw were already…”
“That explains how Mr. Shaw managed to win Miss Thompson’s heart so quickly! Maybe they’d been exchanging glances and secret messages for ages!”
“Are you saying Mr. Vaughn got divorced because he was cheated on? No way!”
Even the most dignified of the elite couldn’t help but get swept up in the delicious scandal.
Harrison’s eyes, dark as midnight, flashed with a cold, determined fury.
Adrian wanted to ruin his reputation? If Harrison was going down, he’d make sure Adrian went with him.
Adrian could forget about coming out of this unscathed.
If anyone dared covet Harrison’s woman, he’d drag Adrian off his pedestal, no matter what it took.
Sophie, listening to Harrison’s words, let out a soft laugh. “Funny, Miss Thompson once told me that Mr. Vaughn, you couldn’t wait to get divorced. So why, now that it’s all over, are you suddenly so concerned about who Miss Thompson is with?”
Selene’s expression remained calm and unreadable. No matter how much Harrison tried to stir things up, her face betrayed nothing.
Harrison barely spared Sophie a glance. “Aren’t you a journalist? Haven’t you figured it out yet? Adrian’s been after my wife for years! And I have concrete proof—he’s been obsessed with her for at least five years!”
Sophie replied, “You’re both divorced, yet you keep calling her your wife. Seems like the only one who can’t let go of this marriage is you, Mr. Vaughn.”
It was as if a massive speaker inside Harrison’s chest sounded a deafening thud, vibrations rattling his heart and making every nerve ache.
They say outsiders see the truth best. Ever since Selene’s divorce, Sophie—thanks to her work as a journalist—had kept a close eye on her.
While everyone else was captivated by the surface-level drama, Sophie alone seemed to see through to the heart of things.
She noticed the uncertainty flickering in Harrison’s eyes and saw right through the bravado he put on for Selene’s sake.
Just then, Harrison’s phone began to vibrate.
He had no intention of answering, but Sophie’s words had left him cornered, with no way to retreat or advance.
The sudden call was a welcome lifeline, a way out of an impossible situation.
He pulled out his phone and saw “Leo Vaughn” flash across the screen. Instantly, his expression froze.
A call from Leo, now, could only mean trouble.
