Dumping The Ice King His Mini-Tyrant novel Chapter 358

Harrison watched as Selene turned her head, her eyes shimmering with amusement and an easy fondness—for Carmel. She looked at Carmel with a gentle indulgence, a softness Harrison had never seen directed at anyone else. Not even Adrian had ever drawn out a smile like that from her. It was as if, no matter what absurd thing Carmel said, Selene would back him up without hesitation.

The realization hit Harrison like a series of sharp knives carving into his chest, again and again.

His breath caught, becoming ragged and uneven.

Was this the power of childhood bonds? The kind of damage only someone who’d grown up by her side could do?

He knew Carmel and Selene had been inseparable since they were kids, but he’d never taken the guy seriously. As the heir to the Vaughn family, why would he bother with someone who’d crawled out of some backwater town?

Even though he’d always known Selene and Carmel were close, Harrison had never given Carmel a second thought, dismissing him completely.

Yet now, he found himself blindsided—Selene actually agreed with Carmel’s whole "true love" theory.

If Carmel was "true love," and Adrian was the boyfriend, then what did that make him?

Was he just the punchline to seven years of marriage with Selene?

It felt like a sledgehammer had come crashing down on him, splitting his chest wide open, letting in a bitter, icy wind that sliced through his insides.

“Selene!”

His eyes had turned pitch-dark, shadows pooling beneath his brow. He always seemed to wear that furrowed expression, deep lines etched into his face.

“If Carmel is your true love, then what does that make Adrian?” His voice was low and rough.

Selene shot him a cold look. “Are you secretly in love with Adrian or something? Why are you so concerned about him?”

He met her gaze head-on, and for the first time, Selene saw a flash of genuine anguish behind Harrison’s stoic mask.

She blinked, her lashes fluttering, but facing her ex-husband, she felt nothing. Not a single ripple of emotion.

“How many times do I have to say it before it gets through your head? We’re not close. When we divorced, you couldn’t wait to be rid of me—so why are you always showing up, desperate to remind me you exist?”

Her words made his voice turn hard and cold. “You’re overthinking things. Don’t tell me—you think I deliberately came here just to bump into you?”

A bitter laugh slipped from Harrison as he looked away, unable to meet her eyes. He feigned indifference, but the lie was obvious—even to himself.
