“Is Adrian even speaking English right now?”
“Is that really what he means?”
“What are you talking about?!” Luke Holloway asked, genuinely baffled.
Adrian caught sight of Luke’s dead-serious expression and handed over the medical file he’d been clutching.
“Uncle Luke, your brother-in-law is perfectly healthy.”
Luke immediately flipped open the file and skimmed the detailed report of Adrian’s surgery. The medical jargon was dense and hard to follow, so he glanced up at Adrian, then back down at the paperwork.
“Why… why on earth would you have a crystal bead implanted in your body?”
Before Adrian could answer, Harrison reached out and snatched the file with such force that Luke let go without a fight.
As Harrison read through the report, his expression darkened to the color of storm clouds. His knuckles whitened and veins bulged across the back of his hand as he gripped the papers, crumpling them in his fist.
He glared at Adrian, eyes burning red with fury, looking for all the world like a man possessed.
“What the hell were you thinking, getting that thing put in?! Are you insane?!”
Harrison’s voice came out as a near-roar.
Of course he knew why Adrian had done it. That was exactly why his anger kept boiling over.
“Obviously,” Adrian replied, completely serious, “it was so Selene could have a better experience.”
He said it with such earnest conviction, as if he were reciting a noble oath.
Luke stared at him, stunned by Adrian’s solemnity. So this was actually something good for Selene? The irritation Luke had felt toward Adrian evaporated in an instant. Anything that benefited Selene had his full support.
