From beginning to end, Yvonne had always been their only child, and that made them even more protective of everything she’d been through.
They wished they could cradle her in their palms and shield her from everything.
Then out of nowhere, someone appeared saying he wanted to take their daughter away in marriage.
No parent could accept something like that easily.
Only Charles still held to the belief that a woman deserved to live freely.
He had always believed that she should have the right to make her own choices and keep control of her own life.
Yet now, someone had come straight to their door, trying to force their hand.
He never imagined such a thing would happen.
By all reason, his daughter should have been free.
He couldn’t stand by and watch someone simply take her away.
No matter what, the man should at least be someone she cared for.
Not someone like Edwin, who barged in, pressured her for an answer, and even tried to threaten him.
And he hadn’t shown the slightest respect toward the two elders.
How could they ever expect a man like that to respect their daughter in the future?
It was impossible.
When the elders finally closed their bedroom door, Yvonne—standing at the turn of the staircase—heard every word.
Her heart felt strangely unsteady.
She hadn’t expected her parents to genuinely care about how she felt.
They weren’t joking earlier; they truly loved her.
It seemed she had misunderstood them.
Meanwhile, back in the country.
Aurora spent the day out with Megan, and only when Megan finally felt satisfied did she decide it was time to return to Ravenshore.
Aurora teased, “We barely started and you’re already done? Let’s stay out a little longer.”
“No, no more,” Megan said weakly, slumping onto the café sofa.
“I really had my fill this time. I don’t think I’ll want to go out again anytime soon. I might need ten days or half a month to recover at home.”
Aurora laughed. “You can’t be serious. It hasn’t even been that long and you’re already talking about resting at home?”
“Look at how much we bought. Honestly, I think this place isn’t that different from back home,” Megan suddenly sat up and said firmly.
“I think I’m getting homesick. My parents called yesterday—they want me to visit.”
“Really? Why didn’t they tell me?” Aurora deliberately looked away. “I don’t think I’ve had enough fun yet. Let’s walk around a little more.”
