“Looks like the previous evidence was just an appetizer. There's something more explosive coming up.”
Monique sat blankly on the sofa, questioning her entire existence.
——
“Ms. Ebony Fox, why aren't you saying anything?”
One of Annie Ainsworth's lackeys intentionally provoked her, “Do you finally realize that the victim, Wayne Whitman, can't be bought off? Feeling completely out of options?”
“Of course not.”
Polly jumped out, fiercely snapping back, “We're just waiting for him to arrive.”
“Is that so?”
The man sneered coldly, “Then let's wait together and see if he actually shows up.”
Annie sat back down, crossing her legs and casually admiring her manicure.
“Release the news.”
“Yes, ma'am.” The man immediately contacted the people watching Wayne, asking for an update.
But after sending several messages, there was no reply.
“What's going on?”
He scratched his head in frustration and switched to making a phone call.
The call connected, and a weak voice came through the receiver: “Wayne... he ran away.”
“Ran away?”
The man gasped, shooting a panicked look at Annie. “Ms. Ainsworth, Wayne ran away.”
“What?”
The color drained from Annie's face, her eyes turning glacial. “Where did he go? Does he not care about his kid's life anymore?”
“Call him right now. Tell him if he doesn't do exactly as we say...”
Before Annie could finish her sentence—
The sudden screech of brakes echoed from the driveway behind them.
A second later.
A car door swung open, and Wayne, with his arm in a sling, stepped into everyone's line of sight.
Wayne?
What was he doing here?
This wasn't part of their plan at all.
