Over in Froskia Country.
Kurt splashed water on his face, waking himself up completely. The more he thought about the phone call, the more unsettled he felt.
He dialed Ebony Fox's number again, his tone cautious. "Are you mad?"
"Mad about what?"
Ebony Fox was sitting cross-legged at her low table, eating the ravioli Kurt had prepped for her before he left.
"That crazy woman." Kurt frowned deeply. "I really have nothing to do with her. It was entirely my mom's doing."
"My only fiancée, from beginning to end, has always been you."
"What are you panicking for? I'm not mad." Ebony Fox took a sip of water and asked mildly, "Are you getting ready to head to the test flight site?"
"Yeah."
Kurt's mood lifted as he murmured, "I'll be home in a couple of days."
"I saw the forecast says there's rain at the site recently. Be careful,"
Ebony Fox whispered, glancing at the weather app on her iPad.
"I know."
Kurt pursed his lips and asked tentatively, "My little fox, do you want to get married?"
"What?"
Ebony Fox's fingers abruptly tightened. She swallowed a piece of ravioli whole without chewing, nearly choking herself.
"N-Nothing."
Hearing her strangled voice, Kurt immediately backpedaled. "I was just asking casually. You don't have to answer if you don't want to."
It was mainly because all this garbage kept popping up, threatening their relationship.
There was always someone trying to tear them apart.
If they were married, everything would be set in stone, and anyone's objections would be pointless.
"I just want you to know that for you, I'm willing to give up everything," Kurt stated solemnly.
The protection of the Schwartz family, his status as a wealthy heir, the countless family assets...
None of it could compare to Ebony Fox.
Ebony Fox heard him clearly, and her brow furrowed in displeasure. "Kurt, thinking like that is incredibly childish."
She didn't agree with the idea of Kurt severing ties with his family.
