Did Mom really find out?
If that was true, she would definitely disapprove and go make trouble for Ebony Fox.
Kurt Schwartz hadn't figured out how to protect Ebony Fox from getting hurt yet.
Monique took a sip of her coffee and added, "Ebony Fox's little assistant."
The assistant?
The heart that had been in Kurt's throat slowly settled back into his chest. He let out a low, helpless chuckle. "Who told you I like her?"
"If you don't like her, why did you buy her a computer, go to a hotel in Crestview City with her? And why did you have her come all the way to the family estate looking for you?"
Monique slammed her coffee cup down, her face tight with displeasure. "Kurt, your mother may be getting older, but I'm not stupid."
Kurt blinked.
She had completely mistaken the identity of her future daughter-in-law. How was that not stupid?
"I don't like her," Kurt explained. "I gave her the computer out of the goodness of my heart, I went to Crestview City to watch a match, and she came to the estate because I lost my ID and she was bringing it to me."
"You don't like her?"
Monique looked at him with heavy suspicion. "Then why have you been stubbornly clinging to Ebony Fox's side for half a year?"
"The person I like is someone else," Kurt murmured. "As for who it is, I haven't won her over yet, so I can't tell you."
"Why can't you tell me?"
Monique stood up, glaring at him furiously. "Is it some messy woman from the streets? Kurt, are you trying to give me a heart attack?"
"Look at Juniper, she is so exceptional. She could crush you with any single one of her hidden talents."
"I'm not demanding you find someone of perfectly equal social standing, but she should at least be respectable, right?"
But right now, he couldn't even bring himself to say her name. Just how bad could she be?
"Don't worry about it," Kurt said, sitting on the sofa. He thumbed the bank card Ebony Fox had given him, his gaze softening with affection.
"I'm your mother, how can I not worry?" Monique pulled out a piece of paper, pointing at the address written on it. "I've already set up a meeting for you with Annie Ainsworth. If you dare stand her up this time, I'll throw myself off the balcony."
Kurt glanced at the address, then looked at his mother's unrelenting expression, and finally spoke. "Fine. You want me to see her? I'll see her."
However.
She'd better not regret it.
