When did she get so sharp, so quick with her words? Was it just because she thought the Sullivan Group had her back now? Before he could figure it out, a bodyguard hurried over, holding out a phone and whispering, “Sir, your grandma is calling.”
Scott froze for a second, then took the call. He stepped aside, lowering his voice. “Grandma.”
Diane’s voice came through, cool and commanding. “Scott, I heard that woman you keep on the side is fighting you for the child. You still have no sense of decency, do you?” She didn’t wait for him to answer. “Rumors are already all over Easton Heights. If you don’t handle this, I will.”
Scott’s jaw tightened, his eyes clouding over. “I understand, Grandma. I’ll sort this out in the next couple of days. I won’t let it affect the Tucker family’s reputation.” He barely finished before the line went dead. She’d hung up without another word.
His expression darkened as he glanced down at the two women, then at the Sullivan family bodyguards blocking every exit. “Great. Just great.” He knew the Sullivan family was behind this.
Scott looked up, his eyes cold and cutting. “Summer, you’ve really pissed me off now.”
Summer met his stare, her heart pounding, but she forced herself to stay steady. “I just want my son back.”
Scott’s lips twisted in a cold smile. “You want Leo? Come get him. He’s right inside.” He glanced over his shoulder, then looked back at her. “These past few days, he barely eats during the day. At night, he cries for his mom.” He was trying to get under her skin, and it worked. “You miss our son so much, right? If you’re brave enough, come up and see him.”
He turned and disappeared into the shadows of the plane, not giving Summer a chance to say anything more.
The second she heard how her son was doing, Summer’s heart just crumbled. She started to go after Scott, but Wiona grabbed her arm.
“Hold om,” Wiona said, her tone almost teasing. “He never said you had to go alone.”
A few minutes later, the private jet was packed. Wiona brought Peter, Nikolai, Drake, and sixteen bodyguards onto the plane with her and Summer.
Scott’s hand twitched, like he wanted to pull her in, but he forced himself to stay back. He didn’t argue. He just looked at her and Leo for a long moment, then said, cold as ice, “We can get divorced, but Leo stays with me. He’s the Tucker family’s heir. We won’t let him be raised outside the family.”
Summer let out a bitter laugh. There was a fierceness in her now, the kind only a mother could have. For the first time, she saw Scott for who he really was.
“No way,” she shot back. “You want him with you? Are you going to raise him yourself? Will you actually be there for him every day, showing him what a father is? You’ll just dump him on a nanny and let him grow up alone with strangers. That’s not a life.”
She took a shaky breath, refusing to back down. “Scott, if you really cared about your son, you wouldn’t tear him away from me. He already has a father who can’t be there. He can’t lose his mom too. Who else will love him if I’m gone?”
Scott’s face grew even darker. “I’ll send him back to the family estate. My parents and grandmother are there. He’s the only great-grandson of his generation. No one will dare neglect him.”
He glared at her. “And what can you give Leo? Sure, he needs you now, but will he need you when he’s older? What I can give him is something you’ll never be able to match. You really need to think about this.”
