Daniel felt like he was about to lose it. “Isaac, what are you even talking about? What do you mean, your blood, your child? What does this have to do with Bianca? Isaac, make sense for once! You’re lying, right? This can’t be real!”
He grabbed at Isaac, desperate and shaking, trying to pull himself up. Isaac just stood there and let him do it. When Daniel finally managed to stand, Isaac looked him straight in the eye. His father’s face was twisted with fury and disbelief. Isaac actually smiled.
“It’s real, Dad. Every word.”
Daniel’s anger snapped. “She’s your sister!”
Isaac’s reply was cold. “Since when? She’s not my sister. We don’t even share a father or a mother. Or have you been cheated for so long you forgot?”
Daniel stared at him, stunned, unable to believe what he was hearing. He was so furious, he tried to slap Isaac, but he forgot how weak he’d gotten. The second he lifted his hand, his knees buckled and he went crashing backward.
He hit the floor hard. The shock and rage sent pain shooting through his chest. He clutched at his heart, gasping. “Medicine… my meds…”
Isaac crouched down, holding something bloody and raw right in front of Daniel’s face.
“Why bother with medicine, Dad? There’s no money left for that. Maybe you should focus on your grandson instead. Bianca isn’t really your daughter, but this kid… this is your real grandson. Take a good look. Go on!”
Isaac’s hand gripped Daniel’s head, forcing him toward the bloody mess. Daniel’s fear turned to tears, streaming down his cheeks. Isaac only seemed amused.
“Oh? Are you crying now? You and Bianca are so alike. She always lost it the second things got rough. I spent so much time breaking her in, and she still tried to run away. Tell me, where’d she get the nerve?”
When Daniel woke again, he stared up at a dark ceiling, drowning in despair. He tried to reach for his phone, but his hands and feet were tied to the bed. He couldn’t move at all. He tried to call out, but his throat was dry and raw.
“Isaac… you monster… What are you… planning…”
Isaac heard him and came to the doorway. The whole apartment was dark, nothing but cold shadows everywhere. Daniel could just make out his youngest son, staring at him with a look that sent chills down his spine.
“Dad. This isn’t about being a bad son. I know you loved Mom. So I want you to feel what she felt before she died. You always said she was the only girl you could ever love. Maybe if you live through what she did, you’ll finally understand what you put her through. Get ready. This is just the beginning.”
Isaac stepped back, swallowed by the darkness. Then a taller, broader figure filled the doorway.
