Divorced and Pregnant My New Life with a Billionaire Drives My Ex Crazy novel Chapter 492

She looked around, wide-eyed and shaking, her voice barely more than a whisper. “Don’t come closer… Please, just stay away…”

“I’m scared. Really scared.”

“Go away. All of you… Just go away!”

Her scream tore through the room. Whatever memory she was reliving, it broke her wide open. Tears rushed down her cheeks, soaking her face in seconds.

Phil glanced over his shoulder, his frustration obvious. “Where’s Dr. Jason? Isn’t he here yet?”

A servant spun around and hurried off, promising to find him.

Phil moved closer to Alice, hoping to reach her through the panic. “Alice? Can you hear me?”

He’d never seen her like this before. Conrad had warned him about Alice, about the way she could sometimes seem so lost. He knew she was childlike, that she had bad days. But when Phil first arrived, she seemed better. She was sweet, like a little kid who didn’t remember much but was easy to comfort. Most days, she could talk to people just fine.

The only time he’d seen her act differently was that day she climbed the tree.

But tonight was different.

For the first time, Phil understood just how deep her pain went. She’d been like this for twenty years.

“Alice, look at me. You’re in your room, all right? There’s no one here but me. I’m Phil.”

“Alice?”

His voice was steady, soothing, like he was trying to talk her out of a nightmare.

But Alice was too scared to hear him.

She couldn’t remember anything, not even who he was. All she felt was fear. Her mind was in pieces, and all she could do was cry out, pushing him away, desperate for space.

Phil hesitated only a second before he gently caught her wrist and pulled her into his arms.

“It’s okay,” he whispered. “Shhh…”

“I’m right here. No one’s going to hurt you.”

“It’s okay. You’re safe… You’re safe now…”

He kept repeating those words, soft and patient, holding her close and gently patting her shoulder.

Little by little, Alice stopped fighting. Phil couldn’t believe it. She was still crying, curled up tight in his arms like a frightened little deer, her face streaked with tears, lost and innocent, staring up at him.

Something about the way she looked at him hit Phil right in the chest.

He lifted her off the floor, cradling her carefully. As soon as he placed her on the bed, Annette and Wiona rushed in.
