Divorced and Pregnant My New Life with a Billionaire Drives My Ex Crazy novel Chapter 489

Alice rushed over and wrapped her arms around Annette, hugging her tight. Annette looked so tired, it made the hug feel even more necessary.

“Mom, we came back to stay with you,” Alice said, her voice soft but determined. “This is home, for me and Wiona. We were worried about you being here alone.”

Annette blinked, caught off guard. Was this really her daughter, saying such warm, caring things? It was more than a surprise. Tears welled up in her eyes and she pulled Alice even closer, planting kisses all over her forehead.

“My sweet girl, you have no idea how happy you’ve made me,” Annette whispered, barely able to get the words out through her tears.

She knew in her heart that Wiona must have helped Alice find these words. Maybe even taught her exactly what to say. But that didn’t matter. No matter how many times Annette had tried before, she’d never managed to get through to Alice like this. She glanced at Wiona, her eyes full of gratitude.

“Thank you, Wiona. I mean it. Thank you so much. Having you in this family feels like a gift. Alice, I really am happy. I don’t feel so lonely anymore.”

Annette hugged Alice tightly, covering her cheeks and forehead with kisses, as if she could make up for all the years they’d lost. In that moment, it was easy to forget Alice was twenty-four. She just looked like the little girl she used to be, before everything fell apart.

Watching them, Wiona felt a bittersweet ache in her chest, but also a huge sense of relief. It was the right choice to come back. No matter what happened, family ties ran too deep to ever be broken.

The three of them ended up sharing a late-night snack at the table. Alice kept nodding off, her head drooping as she fought sleep. Annette and Wiona exchanged tired smiles.

When Phil came to take Alice to her room, Annette reached for Wiona’s hand again.

“Thank you for coming back tonight. The house doesn’t feel so empty anymore. I won’t run away again. As long as this place stands, I’ll be here.”

Her eyes were red and watery, as if she was promising never to repeat the mistake she’d made years ago, when she left her children behind.

Wiona squeezed her hand and smiled. “I believe you, Mom. We’ll put this family back together. From now on, we’re in this together.”

A single tear slid down Annette’s cheek. Wiona felt a sting in her heart, but most of all, she felt hope. Tonight, she’d made real progress. Annette probably wouldn’t leave Hawthorne Hall again.
