The room was buzzing with curiosity. People glanced at the group clustered around her—six bodyguards, a secretary, and two women nobody could identify. No way was she just some regular executive. Trying to figure out who her husband was became a little puzzle. With a man willing to spend like that, who on earth was Vivian? Was there something even more mysterious about her?
Everyone who overheard Faith was practically dying of curiosity. They wanted to rush over and snatch the mask right off Wiona’s face.
Only Ms. Morden and Tina knew who Wiona really was. Even so, Ms. Morden had no idea Wiona was married again. She’d seen the gossip online, and since Jace was showing off his new wife, it didn’t strike her as strange. These days, people got married and divorced so quickly, and it looked like Wiona’s new husband was even more powerful than the Salisburys.
When people turned to Ms. Morden for answers, she waved them off. “I honestly don’t know. Tina’s closer to her, and even then, Wiona always wears a mask when we meet.”
Revealing Wiona’s identity was the last thing on Ms. Morden’s mind. If Wiona wanted to stay hidden, Ms. Morden wasn’t about to ruin that. Let the industry gossips figure it out themselves. They’d force the studio to make Vivian show herself and now, the person they wanted was right in front of them. Whether they had the smarts to uncover who Vivian really was, well, that was their problem. Ms. Morden folded her arms and felt a little smug about it.
Meanwhile, Wiona was surprised that Conrad worried she wouldn’t spend his money and had even sent someone from his company to help out. The thought made her happy.
Conrad, you’re actually doing a great job as a husband.
She told Faith to grab a seat and secretly texted Conrad. [Mr. Sullivan, you might not be here, but trust me, everyone knows you’re around.]
When he didn’t reply, she sent another message. [Don’t worry, I’ll make sure to spend your money well.]
She put her phone away just in time. The pendant she’d been waiting for was finally about to be auctioned.
“Next, we have a emerald pendant.” the auctioneer announced.
Wiona stared at the pendant on the screen, listening as the auctioneer went on. Her gut told her this was the very pendant her birth mother had left with her as a baby. Her chest felt warm and tight. She gripped her paddle, ready to bid.
