“But do you realize that everyone in the room is actually looking for you right now?” Tina whispered, leaning in close. “Everyone’s super curious. Who is this Vivian? Where is she? Is she even real, or is this all just for show? Now that I’m here talking to you, the organizers have definitely noticed. Trust me, someone’s going to come over and invite you to sit up front.”
Wiona pressed her fingers to her temples, feeling a headache coming on. “Is it too late for me to kick you out?”
Tina grinned, all mischief. “Way too late. But I can talk to them and ask if you can stay put. Just relax, I’ll stay here with you. Oh, and by the way, Ms. Morden’s here too.”
Wiona glanced up and, sure enough, saw Ms. Morden making her way over. She sat down with them, and just like that, their quiet little corner became the center of attention.
A staff member from the event soon approached and greeted Wiona politely. After he left, it felt like every single person in the hall was staring in their direction. People started to drift over.
“Vivian, you’re Vivian, right?”
“Vivian, I’m such a huge fan. Can I take a picture with you?”
“Vivian, it’s amazing to meet you.”
“Vivian, I love your work so much. I hope you’ll release more, and maybe the studio will start producing them in bigger quantities so we can all own something you created.”
“Vivian, I never expected you to be so young...”
The questions and compliments just kept coming. Wiona had never been in the spotlight like this before, and she was starting to get overwhelmed. Thankfully, Ms. Morden and Tina stepped in.
“Sorry, everyone,” Ms. Morden said, her tone gentle but firm. “Vivian isn’t feeling well tonight, so please give her some space. And she’s not accepting any photos or selfies.”
Tim and Jim quickly stepped up, creating a little protective circle around Wiona. People looked a bit disappointed, but with some nudging from the organizers, the crowd eventually melted away.
