Dear Ex-wife Marry Me novel (Maja) novel Chapter 2154

After all these years, the letter paper had grown so fragile that Athena handled it with the gentlest touch, afraid it might crumble in her hands.

The letter itself was remarkably brief. Back when their final exams ended, Kerwin had asked her to go home and wait for him—he said he had something important to tell her that night.

She’d gone home just as he asked, waiting faithfully, but he never showed.

Months passed before she saw him again. By then, Kerwin was already away at college. It turned out he’d left the country for several months—his mother had fallen ill abroad and passed away, leaving his father devastated.

Kerwin had gone to support his father, forgetting his phone in the rush. That’s why Athena couldn’t reach him, no matter how many times she tried.

When they finally met again, Kerwin was mostly himself. He apologized over and over, doing everything he could to make her smile. Athena ended up letting it go—she couldn’t hold it against him.

That night, she had kept her promise and waited for him, just as he’d asked, only for Kerwin never to come.

Eventually, they got together anyway.

The first word in the letter was simply her name—Kerwin’s familiar greeting: “Athena.”

He always said her name with a kind of gentle breeze in his voice, and the moment she saw it written there, tears began to spill down her cheeks.

The letter didn’t say much else—just one simple question: Would she be his girlfriend?

After they’d started dating in college, Kerwin once asked if she ever got his letter. She told him she’d never received it.

He never brought it up again, and Athena never imagined that, after all these years, the letter would finally find its way to her.

There were only five short lines. Athena read them over and over before carefully folding the paper and tucking it back inside the envelope.

As she stood, she heard Tyler’s voice behind her.

“Athena?”

Tyler had come down from the mountains that evening, surprised to find her still here—he’d thought she’d already gone back to Greenfield.

So she’d waited after all. He couldn’t help but feel a flicker of satisfaction, though he kept it hidden.

“What are you doing sitting here? Are you upset because I ignored you?”

It was obvious from her red-rimmed eyes that Athena had been crying, confirming Tyler’s suspicion—she must be upset about him.

Well, he thought, what’s the point of getting worked up over a girl?

He jerked his chin at her. “Come on, let’s go. I’m not going to argue with you.”

But Athena didn’t seem to hear him. She turned and walked off in the other direction.

Tyler frowned and called out again. “Athena?”

The studio remained silent.
