Dear Ex-wife Marry Me novel (Maja) novel Chapter 2144

The woman was about to continue her rant when Athena interrupted her, her face looking pale as she clutched Tyler's hand.

"I'm feeling a bit dizzy, probably motion sickness," she said.

The other man quickly chimed in, "Let's head inside then."

This place was a cozy little lodge, perfect for a getaway, and it was that time of the year when the hills were bursting with blooming flowers. Tyler had been here once before and everyone had loved it, which is why they came back.

From the moment they arrived, Athena had been unusually quiet. Tyler tried to make small talk, but she seemed distant.

"What's wrong? If you're feeling that bad, maybe you should take a nap," he suggested.

Back in high school, Athena had been the shy type, not one for mingling much. Elsa, on the other hand, was the life of the party, but the two never really clicked. Elsa always thought Athena was putting on airs, acting like she was above everyone, which earned Athena the nickname "Ice Queen."

In Elsa's eyes, Athena was using this persona to make herself memorable to the guys.

There was this one time when Elsa tried to lock Athena in the girls' restroom, but Kerwin happened to walk by and let her out. Word was Kerwin and Athena had grown up together, and he was always there for her. He was popular and smart, like the kind of guy who stood out in a crowd.

Elsa had a massive crush on Kerwin back then, which only fueled her dislike for Athena.

But time had passed, and now Athena was a budding actress, and Kerwin was out of the picture. Instead, it was Tyler who was with her.

"Typical," Elsa thought with a smirk. "She probably ditched Kerwin after she got famous and snagged Tyler instead."

Elsa knew Tyler well enough to know he was out of her league, but she couldn't help but wonder if Athena was just using him like she had with others in the past.

Her eyes bore into Athena with a mix of disdain and resentment.

Meanwhile, Tyler led Athena to their room. She was uneasy, and Elsa's presence only made it worse. If she said anything that made Tyler suspicious...

"Fine. You're off the hook for tonight, but don't try this again. I'm not falling for it."

It wasn't an act of defiance. She just didn't want to play along anymore, not with her mind replaying those high school memories. But Tyler missed the signs and left the room.

Downstairs, Bert and the others were gathered around a poker table. When Tyler joined them, Bert's voice rose playfully, "Oh, look who’s here! Always said she was just a fling, but you brought her out here. None of the others got that, did they?"

Especially to a private gathering like this.

Tyler sank into a chair, while Isaac, cigarette in hand, commented casually, "Couldn't find anyone else."

Elsa perked up at this. "What's this about a fling? Are you talking about Athena?"

Bert caught her eagerness and grinned knowingly. "Yeah, she's been trailing Tyler like a lost puppy, pretty pathetic if you ask me."
