"You're not happy?"
He paused, then turned back, his gaze landing on her face. "When was I not happy?"
"You came to my place for New Year's Eve. Aren't you afraid people will find out?" Charlotte tightened her coat around herself, standing beside him. "In their eyes, we're divorced."
Evander smiled, pressing his lips together. "They're all busy with their own New Year's celebrations. Who would notice us?"
She nodded. "That's true, I suppose."
"Foster said Jonathan sent you an invitation?"
"Yes." Charlotte lowered her eyelids, frowning slightly. "I didn't want to go at first, but since he's being so mysterious, I'm a bit curious to see what it's about."
Evander turned to face her. "It's about Easter, isn't it?"
It didn't surprise Charlotte that he knew.
"The engagement banquet that day will indeed be quite eventful." Evander withdrew his gaze, a faint, knowing smile on his face. "Even I'm looking forward to it."
Charlotte turned her head to look at him. "You're looking forward to it? Aren't you worried they might still team up against you in the end?"
Evander was looking at her too. "If they do gang up on me, would you feel sorry for me?"
She turned her face away. "We'll see."
Evander smiled without speaking, his gaze resting softly on her for a moment. "You know, I really do think you've gained a little——"
"Evander, Happy New Year!"
Charlotte suddenly cut him off, her smiling eyes meeting his.
