The sky darkened.
Ilse waited and waited, but Genevieve still didn't come down for dinner. She urged the butler to go upstairs and call her, but the butler hesitated, reluctant to move.
"I told you to go call her," Ilse said, looking up.
The butler finally spoke slowly, "Madam... Miss Genevieve didn't seem quite right when she came home today."
Ilse simply thought Genevieve was just throwing a tantrum. She already knew that Jonathan had left her behind at the dress fitting today. So she just hummed dismissively, "Getting upset over such a small thing, so petulant."
"Ah——"
A scream suddenly came from upstairs. Ilse immediately sensed something was wrong, put down her chopsticks, and hurried quickly upstairs.
"Don't come near me! I didn't mean to! I didn't mean to——"
"Genevieve!" Ilse pushed open the bedroom door to find Genevieve huddled under the covers, her face ashen, the whites of her eyes bloodshot. She looked like she had just experienced something horrific. Her eyes brimmed with an overwhelming, unshakeable terror and anxiety.
"Miss, what's wrong?" The butler started to approach, but Genevieve suddenly clutched her head and screamed, "Don't come near me! It's not my fault! I didn't mean to kill you!"
Ilse immediately caught the abnormality in those words. Her face darkened considerably. She quickly stepped forward, gripping Genevieve's shoulders, and said loudly, "Genevieve, it's me! It's Mom!"
"Don't come near me, don't... please..."
Genevieve's mind was filled with the horrific, bloody image of Easter's death. She couldn't calm down at all, her whole body trembling uncontrollably.
Ilse hugged her and soothed her softly, "Genevieve, it's okay. Mom is here. No one can hurt you."
Having said that, she turned and motioned for the butler to leave first.
After the butler left, Ilse patiently and gently comforted her until Genevieve's emotions calmed down a little. When she finally recognized her mother standing before her, she choked out, "Mom..."
"Tell Mom, what exactly happened? Don't worry, Mom will help you."
