Cold Husband Burning Regret: The Divorce He Couldn't Handle novel Chapter 529

He had suspected 'Jason's' identity for a while. Even after Zachary's supposed confirmation, his doubts had lingered. Why would a man who had just arrived in Eldermere City, a man who had only met his sister a few times, get so involved in her affairs? It made no sense.

Unless it was him.

With his cover blown, Evander made no further attempt to hide. He slowly removed his mask. "It seems I couldn't fool you after all."

"Howard Enterprises has been in chaos for a year without a leader, yet here you are in Eldermere City, living comfortably under the false identity of 'Jason.' I have to say, Mr. Howard, you've made quite a life for yourself."

Evander ran a finger along the mask's cold edge. When he looked up, the emotion swirling in his eyes had settled into an abyss of darkness. "You, of all people, should know there is only one reason I would abandon my company's internal power struggles and risk coming to Eldermere City alone."

He placed the mask on the coffee table, the metallic clink sharp in the quiet room. "Faking my death was a last resort. I didn't want her to see me like this." He paused, his gaze drifting to the dark night outside before settling back on Wesley. His voice carried a trace of exhaustion. "And I needed a completely secure identity to stay close to her, to be there to protect her the moment she was in danger."

Charlotte waited in the hallway for about twenty minutes before the tall figure emerged from the room.

She looked up as Evander approached. The overhead lights cast sharp lines on his chiseled profile, highlighting the lingering hardness in his deep-set eyes.

"What did you and my brother talk about?"

"Curious?"

Charlotte turned away, her voice barely a whisper. "You knew my brother was okay the whole time… but you pretended you didn't."

Evander chuckled, taking a step closer. "You were the one who came to me asking for help finding him. You never actually asked if I already knew where he was."

Charlotte was speechless.

He smiled faintly. "I'm starting to regret not asking for something when you made your offer."
