Cold Husband Burning Regret: The Divorce He Couldn't Handle novel Chapter 512

"What's not appropriate? We're going to be family soon. Isn't it better to get to know each other now?"

Charlotte's brow furrowed. "What are you talking about?"

"Didn't your aunt tell you? She promised you'd marry me. My mother is quite fond of you, and I'm very pleased with you as well." Tobias scooted his chair closer to her, and she instinctively slid hers away.

Seeing her avoidance, Tobias wasn't angered. "I know you women care about appearances. But don't worry, it's just the two of us now. You can relax and give me a chance."

"I have other matters to attend to, Mr. Lowe, so if you'll excuse me." A flash of disgust crossed Charlotte's face as she stood up to leave.

But when she tried to pull the door open, she found it held fast. Someone on the other side was holding the handle, and no matter how hard she pulled, the door wouldn't budge.

A terrible realization dawned on her. "What is the meaning of this?" she demanded, her voice sharp with anger. "If you don't let go, I'm calling the police!"

Tobias rose slowly to his feet. "The police don't get involved in family matters. Don't waste your energy."

She let out a bitter laugh and spun around. "Are you crazy? I'm not your family! This is unlawful imprisonment! Forget the police—if my father and brother find out, they'll never let you get away with this!"

"By the time they find out, it'll be too late. Once you're mine, what do I have to be afraid of?" Tobias's friendly facade finally dropped, revealing a predatory glint in his eyes as he lunged for her.

Charlotte dodged swiftly, using the large round table to keep him at a distance.

But after just a few steps, a wave of dizziness washed over her. She stumbled, catching herself on the tabletop.

Her eyes widened in horror. "You… you drugged the juice?"

Tobias chuckled. "Not the juice. The tableware. We just put a little something on the set you were using."
