Cold Husband Burning Regret: The Divorce He Couldn't Handle novel Chapter 469

Charlotte looked at her dramatic expression and couldn't help but let out a helpless laugh. “Evander and I are divorced. Even if I were staying at a man’s house, it wouldn’t be anyone else’s business, right?”

“Of course it’s someone’s business! He—” Lilith nearly let something slip, but quickly corrected herself. “He’s only been gone a short while. It just doesn’t look right.” Before Charlotte could respond, she continued, “I know! I’ll come with you!”

Charlotte paused. “With me?”

“Yes! A man and a woman living alone looks suspicious, but if I’m there, no one can gossip!” Lilith’s eyes curved into a smile.

“I don’t think that’s a good idea.”

“Oh, come on! If you’re too shy to ask, I’ll—” Lilith made a move for the door, which swung open to reveal Judd standing on the other side.

Clearly, he had heard everything.

“If Miss Sutherland wishes to stay, she is welcome.”

Lilith was taken aback for a second, then broke into a grin. “Mr. Carstairs, you’re a real sport!”

His expression was unreadable. “But I don’t like people touching my things.”

She held up her hands in surrender. “Don’t worry, I won’t touch a thing.”

Judd’s gaze shifted to Charlotte, then he turned and left without another word.

She hadn’t wanted to impose on him any further, but now… Charlotte looked at Lilith again. Everything she did felt so unpredictable. Was it all just a series of coincidences, or was there something more to it? She decided not to overthink it.

That night, she and Lilith shared a room. Lilith fell asleep quickly, but Charlotte tossed and turned, unable to rest. It wasn’t having someone else in the room that bothered her; it was Judd’s words from earlier that kept replaying in her mind.

Finally, thirsty and restless, she got up and went to the kitchen. To her surprise, Judd was there too. He was wearing a black silk robe, standing at the counter making coffee. The warm yellow light from above cast a soft glow on his hair.

Charlotte stopped short. “Professor Carstairs, you’re still awake?”

He looked up. “So are you.”
