Cold Husband Burning Regret: The Divorce He Couldn't Handle novel Chapter 452

“Alright, I’ll take your word for it, ma’am.” Marty lifted his foot off Derrick’s chest. “But I need to see the money today. Otherwise, don’t blame me for what happens next.”

“Of course, of course.” Derrick’s wife helped her battered husband to his feet, bowing obsequiously. “I’ll get the money today, no matter what!”

She grabbed Derrick’s phone and with trembling hands, dialed Vickie’s number.

A moment later, Vickie answered. “What is it?”

“We need three hundred thousand. Now.”

“We already agreed on a price! Are you trying to extort me?”

Derrick’s wife clenched her jaw. “We did what you asked, and what happened? Mrs. Carstairs found out everything! You should be grateful we haven’t sold you out! I don’t care what you have to do, I want to see that money today. If we go down, you’re coming with us!”

Before Vickie could argue, the line went dead.

More than the threat, Vickie was terrified that Mrs. Carstairs would trace this back to her. She already knew about Derrick and his wife. They hadn’t betrayed her yet, but that didn’t mean they wouldn’t. If only she could get rid of them quietly…

Vickie took a deep breath and pulled a small vial from her drawer. If they had just taken the money and disappeared, she wouldn’t have resorted to this. But they had bitten off more than they could chew.

She sent a text and left a short while later.

When she arrived at Derrick’s house and knocked, the door creaked open slowly.

Just as Vickie was about to speak, she caught a glimpse of the tip of a man’s leather shoe by the doorframe. Realization dawned on her. “I just remembered I have something to do,” she said, not stepping inside. “How about we meet tomorrow?”

She turned to leave, but two burly young men blocked her path.
