Chapter 64
Kaia's POV
“I can't believe you didn't tell us!” Allie whined, pouting her lips like her favorite candy was snatched from her hands.
My eyes dropped in guilt, “It kinda skipped my mind." I replied, my voice low.
They paused, taking my countenance in, “Why don't you look excited? You should, you've always looked forward to shifting into your wolf." Dani said.
I sighed deeply, “At that point, it hadn't sunk in yet, but I'm getting there. I'm trying to wrap my head around the fact that I can actually shift and not just that, a rare wolf.”
Their expression softened in understanding. I wanted to be able to see her once more to believe that the moon goddess didn't just grant my request because of Kieran and has taken her back.
“I'm sure it'll sink in soon." Allie assured me and I nodded. “And members of this pack are lucky because if it was me, they wouldn't hear the end of it." She added.
So, after the Pack's meeting the previous day , I met the doctor who gave me several things to do to make Lylah come back faster. One of them included coming to terms with her abilities and not feeling guilty for her absence. And with Kieran's help, I think I would get there faster.
“Are you guys going to continue your conversation from yesterday? I couldn't stop thinking about it and when I asked Ryder…” I started.
Dani choked on her saliva, "you what?” She laughed, after recovering. "What was his answer?”
"Better still, where was Kieran when this was happening?” Allie asked.
I shrugged, "he came in afterwards.”
"I’d have loved to hear his thoughts on it.” Dani said. "I'm sure Ryder wanted to disappear.” She continued and Allie agreed.
It was a relief we didn't have to walk on eggshells around her when it came to Ryder. But we also didn't overdo it.
“I'd love to watch it happen." Allie murmured.
By the time they were done explaining what ‘blowing Kieran’ meant, my jaw dropped, an image permanently formed in my head. I could see the reason why Ryder was unable to provide a straight answer.
Good thing he didn't attempt to, it would've been a very awkward conversation.
“You might want to shut your mouth, Luna.” Dani teased.
"I can't believe I asked Ryder!” I groaned, burying my face in my hands.
“We told you we were going to tell you, why the rush?”
"You can't blame me for being so curious…and he was right there.” I said.
"Curiosity killed the cat.” Allie sang.
My smile widened, "And I'm a wolf.” I sang back and they shook their heads but didn't say anything.
My eyes landed on the fruit lying on the table that Dani used to explain the entire process and the best way to make it enjoyable for him. Kieran's face being satisfied crossed my mind.
“Yea, I definitely want to see it.”
Heeding to the doctor's instructions of taking it easy, going to help out in the hospital was a no, so I remained with the children, even though most of what I did couldn't be considered as work.
After a while, I left there and walked around. Kieran wasn't in his office and bi didn't want to stay alone. So I went around the pack until I got to a large field where I saw some newly shifted wolves running and playing. I stood there, watching how happy and carefree they were.
“I can't wait to have that with Lylah soon." I thought, my eyes filled with longing.
“You know…” A new voice started, coming to stand beside me. She couldn't be more than sixteen. Her eyes sparkled with excitement. "I can't wait to get my wolf so I can join them too.” She said, also looking at those in their wolf forms.
“Then, I'm going to stop being the only one in my friend group who doesn't have a wolf."
“And miss the opportunity to have his arms around me in excitement? No way."
“I was gone for only a few days, and you've grown into me…we're going to make one hell of a team. Now, I have a few ideas for…” She started.
Yea, she was definitely back.
Kieran wasn't in his office, dampening my spirit, stepping out of the door again, I ran into Caleb who looked like he was in a hurry.
"Where's Kieran?" I asked, catching up with him.
He looked at me, no doubt wondering why I didn't mindlink him.
“I want to surprise him."
He nodded, “he should be in the dungeon, but it's better…uhmm…you wait for him up here.” He told me and I agreed.
I haven't been there since the day Kieran found me and thinking about it alone gave me chills. But my impatient self dragged my feet there after waiting for several minutes.
A foul smell hit my nose as I got closer to the dungeons and I thought about giving up and waiting for him to come up. But a familiar smell, one that didn't belong to Kieran filled my nostrils.
“Curiosity kills the cat." Lylah, repeating Allie's words.
“You could hear that?" I asked.
She shrugged, “I could hear everything…and I mean everything.” I smiled knowing exactly where this was headed.
Light from the windows reflects into the dungeon so it wasn't as dark. Kieran's smell was gone, but not the other, and against my better judgement, I walked towards it.
With each step, I hoped I was mistaken. But the moment I got closer and my eyes met his, a loud gasp left my lips and I knew it…it was him.
