Chapter 62
Kieran's POV
“Alpha, we found something." Ryder's voice rang in my head and my hand at Kaia's side froze.
“Was it…?” I thought, "Be right there.” I replied, closing the mindlink and standing up.
"Is something wrong?” Kaia's soft voice asked and I shook my head.
“Ryder thinks he found something, so I'm going to take a look." I told her, placing a kiss on her lips and leaving the room before I get tempted to stay.
Shifting into my Lycan, I ran to the pack borders, reaching there in no time before shifting back. Ryder had his back turned to me, giving command to the warriors, who nodded as they diapers.
“Alpha." He called once he turned to face me.
“What did you find?"
He showed me a piece of clothing which was covered in blood. And the smell coming from it, just like we assumed, didn't belong to a rogue.
“We found this just outside the pack borders, so our best guess is that he's around somewhere, but injured. But he shouldn't have gone that far." Hf explained and I nodded.
“He would if he heals himself…where are the rest of the warriors?” He looked around, “I've sent most of them to check nearby."
Mind-linking other warriors who were of age to join us, I waited. Whoever this person is, he wouldn't be able to escape me today…not anymore.
“It's been too fucking long!" King growled and I couldn't agree less.
“It damn has."
Soon, more warriors arrived, most of them eager to be finally allowed in the search. “Separate yourselves into a group of ten ans search every fucking where. Leave no area untouched." I commanded, my Alpha tone dripping in every of my words.
“Yes, Alpha." They chorused, and began moving around.
With Ryder beside me, we started sniffing the area, following where the smell was stronger. At one point, it disappeared. I couldn't help the frustration I felt when after two hours, we still haven't found anything and our efforts seem to be wasted.
I didn't miss the defeated look on some of the new warriors.
“Alpha…I think we found him.” One of the warriors called through the Pack's mindlink and I dashed towards them.
We found them standing around a very injured person. And apart from the smell of his blood, we were right about him not being a rogue. He smelled like he was ranked…not an Alpha though.
His wounds were already healing but he was still unconscious. I could also smell a trace of wolfsbane coming from him.
“Take him to the dungeon." I ordered.
Ryder’s head jerked to me as he began to say something but changed his mind and directed someone to carry him.
Two hours later, he still hadn't woken up, but most of his wounds had closed up. I wondered what had happened to him.
“Should I have the pack's doctor check him? He should be up by now." Caleb, who just arrived from the neighbouring packs to gather information, said.
“He'll survive." I replied. “Let me know once he regains consciousness."
“Yes Alpha."
I was eager to close this chapter and focus on other pending cases. I also wanted to know who he was working for and what their goal was. And if I am wrong about him not connected to our mystery shooter.
Going back to the pack house pending when he would regain consciousness. I went straight to the room but Kaia's smell had faded and I didn't have to guess twice to know where she was. I was even surprised it took this long for her to leave the room.
His eyes widened in fear, his body trembling as Caleb and Ryder used the chains to hold him in place.
Lowering myself to meet his eyes, “you're running out of time," I told him, my voice cold as Caleb handed me the wolfsbane.
He shrank lower, “please…don't…I'm just looking for someone.” He said, his eyes darting to the wolfsbane I was holding.
“Let's just kill him…he's not going to be useful.” King said, "let's not waste our time.”
"You're going to tell me…everything." I told him, a smirk playing on my lips, “and I might just let you live."
“I'm not lying, I swear, I…just let me go, I won't come back here."
I scoffed, “Hang him."
He barely struggled as Caleb and Ryder held him up. I slowly unfastened my buttons, I could think of several other things I could be doing instead of wasting my time on someone he knew how this works but was choosing to be difficult on purpose.
The moment a portion of the wolfsbane touched his skin, his eyes shut tightly and he let out a pained groan through gritted.
“Fuck!" He groaned.
We went on for a while and his answer remained the same. No matter what we did. Caleb and Ryder were equally frustrated.
We had hoped he would have some sort of leads that would help…either with the Axe or the shooter.
“I don't think he's going to say anything anytime soon." Ryder said.
Caleb agreed, "he's either a Beta or a Gamma. His pain tolerance is high.”
"We have to go through a different approach then.” I told them, "leave him hanging.” They nodded as I went to my room to take a shower, not wanting to smell like blood that didn't belong to me.
